I've just watched the last of the miners in Chile being successfully rescued - 33 men in under 22 hours! There are 6 more "lifts" to come, those of the rescuers that so bravely went down to aid the trapped men, but there doesn't seem to be any reason to doubt that the Fenix II capsule won't be able to finish the job - what a piece of kit that is!
What an astonishing demonstration of the human spirit triumphing over adversity this story has been. From the miners themselves, to the people on the ground that kept searching for them & then the entire rescue effort. Utterly amazing.
The courage, skill & commitment shown by everyone involved has been truly moving to watch & I for one (& for once!) am proud to be human.
I agree with you entirely - it is a lovely feeling to take to bed. Human spirit channeled as it should be has brought about the most wonderful resolution for these men, their families and all who worked so hard to ensure this success. An historic moment we won't see repeated often in a lifetime. No need to apologise - I am pleased to share your happiness. Sweet dreams and ttfn your maj ♥
Maj to see those men reunited with their loved ones, was so amazing and truly inspiriing, gives us hope in the human spirit.
Of course now the true investigation must begin into the safety of the terrible working conditions and safety records, but for now let us rejoice in the glory of their rebirth.
A fantastic feat of endurance of the miners, accuracy of the borehold and invention of the capsule. Chile's admirable PM stayed with the rescue mission throughout. Truly amazing. Excellent SkyNews coverage.
Well done Chile and every good wish to the miners.
Hi mamya - I agree & the President in an interview with the BBC earlier admitted that the government were at fault for not reviewing safety procedures correctly & promised to institute a complete overhaul of "health & safety" for all workers, not just miners.
As to the fortune cookie, I was so full up that I completely forgot to see if they had them! It was an "eat all you can buffet" meal & was completely insane & wonderful at the same time! I'm being treated again next Monday - somewhere different - & I still don't know what I've done to deserve it?!
Now I MUST retire to my den!
Be well, mamya & everyone else that can't sleep! :-)) x ♥
How did they decide in whicho rder they'd be lifted?
Me And Mr Boo were discussing this last night (oh what exciting lives we lead!) and we concluded that we'd fight to be the 2nd person hoisted up, on the premise that we'd let number one guy be the guineau (sp) pig, incase the lines snap etc.
And whats wrong with that.? It doesn't just represent the Queen the whole song represents the country too.
They all sang their national anthem, do'ya know the words.?
Amazing that Max Clifford hasn't shown up to control publicity/access to the miners! I agree with all sentiments expressed - we are privileged to have witnessed this extraordinary spectacle. The resilience of the human spirit, innit.
The families have been in contact with the lawyers from the beginning. Also the miners who were not trapped. They missed out on a lot of pay including for a month's work already done before the disaster.
The government has frozen the company assets because they want them to pay for the rescue too. Somehow I don't think there will be enough to go around.
jemisa....that is my point....they sang their National Anthem, but I find it difficult to believe that in the same situation in the UK, our National Anthem would have been sung.
Sqad, Perhaps I didn't quite understand you, sorreee.
A bit of interest - - The miner who was married (28 years) and had his girlfriend there too announced he didn#t want to be greeted by his wife he wanted his girlfriend there instead. Sorted!
