Elton John and his partner have become parents, with the birth (by a surrogate mother) of a baby boy.

Last year in the Ukraine, they were turned down from adopting because the Ukraine did not accept civil partnerships and also because of his age, he was then quoted as saying :

/// "David always wanted to adopt a child and I always said no because I am 62 and I think because of the travelling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn't be fair for the child" ///.

So what's changed?

His will?
He has since apparently, given up touring.
i have no doubt that the child will be well cared for. But is the household of a civil partnership the right kind of enviroment to bring up a child?. Personally I find it very distasteful
why? do you think that those ina civil partnership would be bad parents?
62 year old multi millionaire has a child using a surrogate. Long term partnership...

I can't see the problem.

Withytrees - what is distasteful exactly?

Personally I find ignorance distasteful...
Jesus's step-father was no spring chicken,
I wouldn't have minded if they'd adopted me!
ummmm

<<<62 year old multi millionaire (woman) has a child using a surrogate<<

Would you still have the same opinion?
Yep....no difference.
ummmm...OK ...fine.
We're not talking about a child being brought up on benefits here. No matter what happens to Elton or David that child will be looked after.

So we have a child that is going to have the very best start in life...

And we complain...well not me.!
Can the wealthy still hire 'wet nurses'?
Plenty of men in hetrosexual marriages (quite often second marriage) have kids at that age. Nobody questions whether that is right and the man is too old. David Furnish will also be the father and he`s considerably younger. They seem to be in a stable realationship and money`s certainly no object. Good luck to them
in my opinion, yes he is too old.

Might it be that they have run out of possessions.....and this would be a "novel addition?"
I can remember when I lived in the US 20 odd years ago. Gay men just COULD NOT adopt. A group of gay men set up an organisation for gay partnerships to foster orphan babies with AIDS. No one wanted these kids but they took them on, loved them and cared for them.

It is obvious that you yourself think that having loads of money, is the best start in life, I think that there are many including those who were born rich who will disagree wholeheartedly with you.

This baby will not have the love and warmth of a proper mother, for instance.
well maybe not, but some that supposedly did were lost, Elton was very very close to his mother as I recall, and had a good example of motherhood which he will be able to draw on, he was also raised with his grandparents taking alot of responsibility for him and so he has a very solid family history, he will be an excellent parent if you are taking maternal instincts into account,
AOG, not having a mother is a different issue to "is he too old".
