Gay couple in B&B

I see that the gay couple who were refused a double room in a B&B have won their case and been awarded £1800 damages. I'm not sure of the background facts, so can't really comment, but the hoteliers were found to have acted unlawfully. Does anyone know which law they actually broke and what the damaged were in respect of?

It is the laws that have to be queried, how do these types of laws get through parliament?

I understand we have to have laws and laws have to be enforced, but to bring out certain laws just for the benefit of certain minorities, is placing unnecessary restrictions on the majoritity.

In this particular case, I am sure there would have been plenty of places that would have happily accommodate these two blokes, without the need to force other establishments to take them in.

Why should they have to stay somewhere else? That B&B looked lovely....why should they have to lower their standards because they are gay?

AOG - i think the thinking behind this type of legislation is to provide as equal a society as possible for everyone who lives in it.

If you extrapolate your point - you can always find hotels which will acccept black people - that does not mean that because accomodation exists, it is acceptable for some hoteliers to exclude people on the basis of the colour of their skin.

it is about trying to ensure reasonable tolerence for everyone - the key to a harmonious society.

Unbelievable treatment by the establishment to discriminate against a couple's religious beliefs in favour of those who indulge in unnatural acts. Their "rights", bizarrely, take precedence over the religion of this country. Absolutely baffling.

It just shows the way that our country has been stifled by the PC Brigade, doesn't it?
Those sleazy "gay only" establishments are allowed, yet even although these two characters were treated no differently to any other unmarried couple, it's the hotel owners who are discriminated against by this appalling decision.

In this case I am totally justified in saying that "the law's an ass".

This isn't about sex or religion its about your freedom as a human being to be treated like the next human being irrespective of sexual orientation, race, creed or religion.

1. Why do unnatural acts mean your rights are worth less than others? (if indeed they are unnatural which is highly disputed)

Your quite welcome to stay in a gay sauna if you really want to - they won't ask any questions or refuse you entry. You just don't have any reason to. A gay couple, however, has just as much reason to stay in a B&B (which if I remember right they'd already arranged to go to) as anyone else.
