Actually if you want to get exercised about the supression of Women look at the Hamar in Africa.
Whipping women is seen as a ritualistic duty and outside of ritual to beating your wife is a normal part of daily life
I'd post a you tube link but that might be a bit unfair!

The thing is, there is a broad spectrum of beliefs and practices along which 'muslim' communities sit, and they are not all the same. From experience I have found that many traits in British Muslims are social as much as religious.
Now, if you have to deal on a daily basis with people who steal, lie, hide their identities, have multiple identities, subjugate girls and women and who are antagonistic to anyone not of their appearance / community / behaviour.....then I think you should tell it as it is. The fact that they might occasionally worship in a mosque is nether here nor there. But the first argument brought forth by these folk when arrested or challenged about their behaviour is that you are racially prejudiced against them as muslims.
Its natural to protect your own interests, be it ethnicity, disablity, gender or whatever, and the lady Baroness can't speak without a microphone being pushed in her face. She's as entitled to her opinion as anyone.

I cannot remember any thread stating the above.....but I can remember a a post quoting 200years.
<<<<f you actually challenge them on the maths alone, they look at you as yhough you have just let off an enormous fart.<<<
That is a nonsensical statement from an intelligent man....the statistics on how many Muslims are in this country is open to dispute and varies between 2 million and 10 million depending upon which report suits one´s argument.
Many Muslims are hear illegally and these chaps are not going to sign up for any Governmental survey.
Yes...people are suspicious of change of culture and attitudes particularly when it affects their lives and the lives of the children.
Muslim countries would fight tool and nail against the "westernisation" of their life and traditions and this is exactly what is happening in the UK against the Muslims.

And Muslims dont have prejudice against the 'infidel' ? I have witnessed this first hand in the workplace.
Sorry to ruin the lefty love in going on here but ther are two sides to the story. Going around bombing people, hate preaching and considering yourself superior is bound to cause friction.
The Muslim community needs to clean its own house. It will then be accepted.
And what exactly does 'prejudice' amount to in her statement.

I think it's true, people would frown on similar remarks made towards black people as a race but while it's on the front pages of every tabloid the general public will see it as acceptable. I'm sure it will eventually grow out of fashion as prejudice against blacks and Indian / Pakistani people has become less common.
I appreciate there is still a problem in certain communities whereby the Muslim population do not intergrate with non-muslim neighbours but only mutual tolerance will overcome this.

"if she can engender a spirit of condemnation of radical Muslims by non radical ones, I think this will promote a better opinion of the religion amongst non Muslims."
true one would hope. however, the current societal approach in lambasting all muslims....because they are muslims, only serves to defeat this objective. if the nation consider it acceptable to inflict prejudice to this isolated group, then one might expect radical/non radical muslims to unite against the nation under a common cause?
