you are so right
Question Author
they are sacking troups retuning from Afghanistan and yet getting involved in policing another country albeit with N.F.Z
It's not DC personally making them, bobbi - as I commented on another thread, this Government is trying to restore some sanity to the public sector after several years of open-purse policies in past years.
Question Author
I agree with you boxy that cuts have to be made but spending millions on this just does not add up
of course they are boxtops lol
Quite. And public spending this year will still be greater than last and spending by 2015 will not be significantly less than it is now (as it certainly needs to be).

That's why I'm somewhat intrigued when I hear of "savage cuts". It seems that badly thought out cuts are being made in some areas whilst others see no cuts at all when there is clearly scope.

As far as Lybia goes we should keep our noses out (though not because of finacial considerations). It's not that long ago that Gaddafi was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but suddenly he's Satan reincarnated. We need to make up our minds which it's to be - but still keep out..
Question Author
yes NJ, some parts of the country are experiencing cuts worse that others, most in Labour safe seast (not my words but a map shown in the Daily Mirror some weeks ago)
I think we should keep out of it too, but not for financial reasons.
Question Author
for any reason LL, I picked Financial reasons as a pointer, but we have enough going on with Afghanistan and before that Iraq
I just think that Western intervention with be thrown back at us and we will be thought of as the guilty party. These people need to sort themselves out.
Question Author
it could end up another Vietnam LL
this is a tribal country who won't want the western intervention, yes the rebesl do but I think their war is all but lost
The conflict is nothing to do with us. We're not the World's policemen. Have we learnt nothing from Iraq and Afghanistan?
As the US says a no-fly zone will not hasten Gaddafis departure. His troops will finish off the resistance movement. So the call will go out from Arab countries to send in ground troops to depose Gaddafi.

And here we are back to Iraq MKII.

Leadership does not always mean sending your country into war. The intelligent generals manage to make a coup without lives being lost.
Question Author
we must be seen as war-horses throughout the world, got to be in there meddling in other peoples buisness
A few thousand innocent libyan women and children don't amount to much compared with our beer and fag money..people get slaughtered by tyrants all the time, nothing to do with us ...is it?
It bloody well should be !
We should stay well out of it, he can do the same as Israel and just ignore the UN.
Question Author
oh for heaven sake, I am not heartless jomifl, he has threatened to blow up his own people if the West go in, it is a very difficult situation and for the record, NOOOO it isn't right that innocents are losing their lives with this madman but I have no doubt he will carry out his threats
Just nuke the basstards
