I have a steak pie in my fridge which says "Use By 16th Sept". It's not going to be eaten, so if I put it in the freezer now, would it be ok say next week?
Cheers

scooby - I hate wasting food, but I think you should throw it. I definately wouldn't freeze it, is it worth a possible bad stomach?
its only the 16th today skype! you have another couple of days before it goes off - they leave a good time, as things don't suddenly go off on the stroke of midnight, and people store things in different ways

freeze it now and it should be fine
i have done this before and i'm still here!
I would do it as you can defrost it and have it on the day you defrost. It's only a guide the labellers give so you can't hold them liable.
It will be fine.

It will definetly be good to eat if you freeze it now. I always buy food from waitrose at the end of the day, that has the use by date on that day, and freeze it for weeks, no probs.
The date is only a guideline and shouldn't be taken too literally. Your commonsense should prevail and tell you that a few days or sometimes a lot longer depending on the food will do you no harm at all.

Parents and grandparents didn't have date stamps on food and most of them survived ;-)
