Great debut by Nudd. I enjoy setters who present me with new words/meanings and here I had a couple of additions to my Bradford's. I hadn't come across this theme before and it made a refreshing change from some long plods we've had this year.

Day out yesterday, but one of the very few times when I have managed to complete without access to BRB or other references. Made easier by the fact that not necessary to fully resolve the double clues in all cases.

Enjoyable puzzle, and for once a literary theme already within my scope of knowledge.

Almost filled the grid but mystified by 4A. Is the answer 2 words? I have 16 normal clues which means I must be missing 2 misprints somewhere but all 16 seem OK as they are to me.

This felt quite easy ... especially after last week's tortuous delights.

Did anyone else feel a little aggrieved by the ambiguity possible in 8D? It threw me for quite a while.

Alekhine, I was just whining over on the EV thread (which also uses double clues this week) about how, in that puzzle, the double clues are not that well written, so that the breaks are glaringly obvious. So, I would have to say I appreciated how clever 8d was.

Alekhine - Add me to the list. I didn't fully understand wordplay to 8 dn until long after I'd finished the puzzle as there could only be one possible answer. Having pondered long and hard I agree with dr b it was a brilliant clue.

Fun crossword, all finished apart from the first letter of 28dn, which should come eventually. Like others, I was merrily entering answers long before I got the hint on how to do them. I was in the Lakes last week so couldn't post a comment, but I did think the puzzle was lots of fun. At first I assumed the travellers were heading for the Royal Wedding, and was not sure whether 10 straight lines was going to be enough to represent four outfits, but all worked out fine. However, I did feel that with many jumbled answers, lots of highlighting plus the ten lines, it could be very easy to make an error producing a neat copy to send off. (I'm good at that)

I didn't get the phrase until the very end as I was looking for a different first word which 'seemed' to be there as 9a and 13a were two of my final clues to solve.
