Thanks Negomi, think you're right, move WR to start of 13ac looks like the endgame to me...it leaves start of 23ac empty and keeps real words....but I'm no expert either.

Taking WR leaves 'ist' for me - not a word, just a suffix.

& WR doesn't equal the 1st word of the message.

There's a better cell to 'take' the start of 13ac in 29a IMO.

Agree about the 'ist' but I'm presuming the aim is to move the letters in one of three squares, start of 23ac, end of 21ac or middle of 37ac, so that the letters in square in middle of 12ac cannot escape ? I'm assuming, like negomi, that the playing field comprises a standard one, with middle of 12ac 'cornered'.l

Ok, now I see what you meant - I first tried 'taking' middle of 12a but couldn't make real words - but you & negomi are right - reduce to the standard playing area & your move is the only possible one to fit the message since both the direct & discovered threat are necessary otherwise end of 33a can intercede.
