should be obvious but even with the help of Chambers can"t work out the solutions. Any hints gratefully received

Thanks my Afrikaans obviously leaves something to be desired. I now understand oupa but why roar which doesn't seem to connect with the first clue except tenuously with perhaps a hoot, where on earth does the spoon come in !?
sorry cant see where spoon comes in yet- i though say might mean a kind of spoon or cutlery piece or sounds like a type of spoon .... but can't think of anything yet
7.. R = Take (it's from Latin, R, recipe - I think) +Oar, spoon(confirmed in Chambers).
