The answer to 28A is LOTI - its dropped letter is not an A (!)
and 29A COSS is COS (as in "because") plus "is" finally.
Question Author
For 29A.

S is the surplus letter in ass.
so we have as = because. Cos is short for because.
Then add the s, short for is.
(Cos's)

For 28A

I have OT (out minus surplus letter u) splitting L and I.

This gives LOTI, the money used in Lesotho.

But I don't understand the LI.

I have got used to the puzzle being in the paper. Not a problem because I photocopy it - and it's a bit bigger.

I think the LI is simple "one pound".

Could one of you please explain the workings of 13D. I have _RNA, but I can't find any of the likely answers in any dictionary.
Arna is a buffalo. one=A acid is RNA
Thanks, Ripper. I thought it must be that but my ancient dictionary doesn't list it.
