I have almost all of the grid filled in but wouldn't mind some help with 32D and 45A

The two I need are 27 US?R and 18 O?ER - can't see the wordplay

yours are PEED and BLUE MASS - I googled that one.

Seems odd so many words to find but no highlighting so why bother??
Question Author
I got 45A, but don't see the word play for 32D.

For 18, think CREDO
Question Author
PEED, meaning 'went'?
I get 18 but what about the other?

For 32 went as in went to the loo and DEEP - a long way in.
Question Author
I can only get USER, but don't get the wordplay. Or for 42D - but I finished everything including the 16 items
I have USER as well. All I could think of was drug user as in acid-head. R is a king which leaves "use" to mean "good" ??
Question Author
Hi Kobnut,

That's an interesting thought
Question Author
In Chambers, one definition of HEAD is 'person who takes hallucinatory drugs'.
Question Author
The Free Dictionary gives this definition of USE as 'good'.

7. Gain or advantage; good: There's no use in discussing it. What's the use?

Add the R for king to get USER = head.
I didn't start this till last night and am now stuck on my last one (!).
42 D. Not many? Nothing whatsoever, it's said (3) ?ne
All I've come up with is 'one', but I don't understand how it works with the second half of the clue.
Strange!
You "didn't start this till last night", but your alter ego 'Malone' started a thread on Crossword Help Forum at 11:17am on Saturday & is now awaiting an answer to this last one! Why lie?
Neveracrossword, I think its ONE = O(nothing) + NE (sounds like ANY)
Puzzled272,thanks for that.
Question Author
Hi Never,

Although I have finished the puzzle and themes, there are a few clues where I am not sure of the logic.

I am not yet convinced about suggestions for 42D.

Is it it me?
I've got nearly all the grid filled (only three blank squares) and have 12 of the letters of the quotation. But now I'm stuck - I have the first name (or it could be the sirname) and I think over half of the other themed items. I really am stuck!
Any help would be appreciated.
THanks in advance
Question Author
The first name and surname start on the same square.
First name is across, surname is down
Thank you boreas, my problem was I assumed that the theme words were all across answers!
Question Author
Yes, I thought that for a while - but 3 of them are Down
Hi Boreas. I, too finished this one quite quickly as 1A, 1D, and 5A gave the games away early in the solving process. Like you, I was not happy with the logic of 42D. I ended up thinking it was a "sounds like" answers because of the "it's said"' so I settled for O (none) NE (any).
I enjoyed this one but I would still prefer to find this crossword back in its old format in the magazine! Much easier than splitting up the paper to share the puzzles!
Finally finished it!
But I would like some 'enlightenment' re the wordplay of:
28 across: Monet out, splitting a quid? (4) Lit(A)i
and 29 across Ass is finally making the distance in India (4) coss
Thanks in advance.
