let W, S and C be the numbers of coWs, Sheep and Chickens
10W+S+0.125C=100
multiply throughout by 8:
80W +8S +C= 800 (equation 1)
Also we know W+S+C= 100 (equation 2)
Subtract equation 2 from equation 1:
79W+7S=700
so 79W= 700-7s
So W (number of cows)must be multiple of 7
As cows cost £10 each the only possible answer (other than W=0) is w=7
That means 7S= 147 so S =21
Can then work out C
10W+S+0.125C=100
multiply throughout by 8:
80W +8S +C= 800 (equation 1)
Also we know W+S+C= 100 (equation 2)
Subtract equation 2 from equation 1:
79W+7S=700
so 79W= 700-7s
So W (number of cows)must be multiple of 7
As cows cost £10 each the only possible answer (other than W=0) is w=7
That means 7S= 147 so S =21
Can then work out C
