Mensa Type Logic Puzzle

This is a Mensa Logic type question.

A sign tells you that BRUSSELS is 66 miles, VIENNA is 69 miles, STOCKHOLM is 79 miles and BUCHAREST is 96 miles. Using this logic how far is it to COPENHAGEN.
Does anyone have a clue on how to approach this please.

These usually have something to do with each letter's position in the alphabet, assigning values top vowels and consonants or the number of penstrokes

unless it's a trick question it's easy to establish where you are on a map and measure the last distance.

Is it anything to do with sum of the letters in each place in alphabetical order (A =1 &c)? Can't be bothered to do the maths.

Yes F.F. it is.Also to reply to you all,have tried all methods can think of straight lines etc. but cannot find a system which works for all.

Well it's nothing to do with real distances as Bucharest is over a 1000 miles from those places. Had tried to assign values to vowels and consonants and solve simultaneously but that didn't work out. Now I know from emeritus that's not the way to go anyway. Something is niggling at the back of my mind that I've sen this before but just can't remember.

I've worked this out but I think there is a mistake in the question, apparently there are 2 mistakes on the Brain Games sheet and I think this may be one of them

yes sorry was on the wrong quiz - I've correlated how many vowels are in each word and how many consonants and given them values which have a pattern -it all falls into place except for STOCKHOLM ( it has 7 consonants but only 2 vowels) The consonant value for STOCKHOLM follow a pattern that would be a value 10 (70) but the vowels don't follow the vowel pattern as that would be a value of 45.

maybe we need to exclude silent letters such as the L in Stockholm

As they are all Capitals, Have you tried your theory with the Country names Retrochick. ?? Just a thought.

I've tried it with mine and it didn't work (that is x for number of vowels, y for number of consonants). Mind you I took it from your comment that it wasn't really anything to do with letter/number patterns at all. I have wondered if it's not the normal 'sign' or if there are items that have the names of those capitals.

Prudie . I read the note as assigning numbers to letters e.g. A = 1 etc wasnt the solution, but counting vowels/consonants and deriving a formula could be.
Although I tend to agree it probably isn't this.

Think I've got it!
Forget the cities they are a red herring.

Take the numbers 66-69-79-96 -find a pattern
66+3 = 69
69+10+ 79
79 + 17 = 96
therefore the last number (distance to Copenhagen) is:
96 + 24 = 120
the pattern is adding 7 to the difference in value of the previous number (if that makes sense)

If seven is added, why is Vienna not 70 miles (63 + 7)?
