.......... extract from another web site:

The Volgelkop Bowerbird is a member of the "gardener bowerbird" group, which includes the "maypole" building Amblyornis and the "mat" building Archboldia, ...
The answer is GARDENERS

There has been a re-naming exercise going on of the Bowerbirds ... so, some birds previously called XXXXXX Bowerbird are no longer referred to as a Bowerbird (in their revised name) ... This has led to ambiguity around the web / google.

Try this AUSTRALIAN site

go down to line 21, at the end of the line a new sentence starts with the word ?Therefore, ... start reading ....

Therefore, the "Golden-crested Black Bowerqbird" so naned by Marshall might best be renamed as follows: Sanford's Golden-crested Bower-bird for Archboldia sanfordi and Archbold's Bower-bird for Archboldia papuensis. The selection of the name "Gold-maned Gardener" for Amblyornis fiavifrons seems inappropriate.

Okay .. so the selection of the name 'Gold-maned Gardener may seem inappropriate! ... BUT, this gold-maned bird (Amblyornis fiavifrons is a GARDENER BIRD (plural GARDENERS (no mention, any longer of Bowerbird in the name)

another Australian reference is -

Encyclopdia BritannicaAmblyornis (bird genus): see gardener. Amblyornis inornatus (bird): see brown gardener. Amblypygi (arachnid): see tailless whip scorpion ...

Thank you very much all for confirmation of gardeners.

Just 20 minutes ago I was looking at my old trusted copy of The Master Crossword Puzzle Dictionary by Herbert M Baus now long out of print and under bowerbird it had gardener!

I think the December Generalist will give rise to a few queries as there are a few strange words this month, including the usual Gaelic ones.
