Hello seekeerz I printed off the grid this evening and can't get the idea as seems to be two clues for each letter I gather each letter appears in each grid but where to start if I could fit in a couple or so would give it a try and willing to
help with any answers, will finish polymath to get
that posted tomorrow. I must say have never encounted a puzzle with no clue numbers where is shaney to help my old head.

Hi pega - it certainly looked a stinker at first, but the idea is to collect all the answers, two of each per a letter of the alphabet, then work them into position, and I think that'll be easier than it looked at first.

As Kayakamina points out there are two different numbered grids - there are two clues with 13 letters and only the right hand grid can take them, - have you gathered a number of answers already ?? Steff

Steff, I was only able to start late yesterday owing mainly to other commitments just before Christmas, and will not have too much time today. I am working through from start and have so far cleared A - I with a couple of exceptions.
Would be quite happy to assist if required, and hope to spend time later with J - Z.

I am looking forward to the challenge of fitting answers into the grids, but it is of course important to ensure correct solutions are firstly obtained.

By all means let me know if I can help with what I have so far.

Hi sarumite - I've managed to get most of the straight forward clues but am hopeless with cryptics ie Rabbies hot ashes has me stumped - are we talking about the Test series [not likely !!] and Mocki ng in Marseilles means nothing at all - so any help will be very appreciated thanks Steff

Hi Steff, I haven't yet reached second clue, but I think the answer to " Rabbie's hot ashes" is AIZLE.....
(Aizle means cinder in Scots).

Thanks sarumite, that'll help - trouble is having to get pretty much all the answers before trying to piece it all together.

doesn't give any cross referencing a chance. did you have any success with Bell shaped handguards on fencing foils? I haven't run that to earth yet Steff

Steff just got to Mocking in Marseille, answer is
" NARQUOIS" ... french for mocking!

Bell-shaped handguards = " COQUILLES "

Have you anything for (D) fissure, and (J) in-off?

How do you do it ?? my French is none existant for a start !!
I found Coquille but wasn't happy with definitions, and am sorry I can't help with either D or J which seems pretty poor on my part - I don't think it's as simple as Drains - that's really pathetic !!! so will go on hunting cheers S

No problem Steff .. I had to research Narquois, as it wasn't a word that I knew, found it under mocking in " Bradford's crossword solver".
We'll keep in touch and hopefully sort out missing answers. I have played snooker for many years but have no idea what that answer beginning with J is !!

Yes !!! Have found snooker / billiards answer, it is apparently JENNY. I have never heard it mentioned at local games nor on TV commentaries. (S) ☺☺☺

Re Laval. It is in Quebec Province and usually referred to as Montreal, but Montreal (although it does begin with an M as needed) has 8 letters and the clue asks for 7.
I also checked out Pierre Laval the French traitor but no Ms there.

I'm sure the Laval you are looking for is the town in France. Look for the name of the d�partement it is the chief town of.

'Reynard ' is an old name for a fox; there is another old name for a fox beginning with T; that is the T??. The ?????? looks like a Scottish surname.
Look for "the Gentle Shepherd, a Scotch Pastoral"
