I personally would like to pay tribute to his skill and guile which has kept ABers challenged in an attempt to double-guess his link words over many weeks.

In his own way, he touched many lives and will leave behind a legacy and a gap that may never be filled.

Can I echo your tribute to MM - his skill and ingenuity gave me hours of pleasure and frustration but the pleasure was a clear winner. I'd like to send my sympathy to his family at this time.

All our family enjoyed his challenges, he gave us hours of puzzlement and pleasure, I think Crofter says it all.

I turned to the sudoku in the paper this morning and right next to it was MMs obit. What a shock. i haven't felt such a loss since John Diamond passed on. I for one will greatly miss MM and Saturday's and Monday''s just won't be the same without him. Deepest condolences to all his family.

What sad news. I felt I knew him a little through his puzzles. We all joked and sometimes criticised his clues but I absolutely loved his puzzles.
Does anyone know how we as a group could pass on our sympathy to the family? There are so many of us who have enjoyed his work and it would be nice to voice it?

He seemed such a nice man . I remember " lack of shaded squares " in the Herculis and emailed regarding it and he sent a lovely reply .My sympathies go out to his family.

We may have had our moans in the past when errors were detected in his puzzles, but he gave great enjoyment to counless puzzlers with his wide range of crosswords, sudokus and other mind challenges. He will be sadly missed by a huge population of solvers as well as by his family and loved ones. Our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

Have only just picked up on this sad occurrence, and it has literally stopped me in my tracks. I have always considered his GK puzzles to be the best on offer.

I agree with lysander - I feel as if I have lost someone I know. And at such a sad time for his family. My sympathies go out to them. His will be a hard act to follow.

Very sad to hear the news . Not that old either , must be one hell of a shock to his family . Don't think anyone else can follow his style for crossword setting . Answers always obtainable , but still frusting at times .

Just heard the news. It is always sad to hear that someone has died and despite our moans, they were always friendly.It will be interesting to see what sort of puzzle we will be getting in the future. Over about 7 years have kinda got used to his clues.

Undoubtedly the end of an era ! Death is never an easy pill to swallow, but at this time of year, and in such a sudden way, it is ever more painful. I hope his famuily can gain some solace knowing that MM brought pleasure to millions, and tha he will be much missed. Nobody except my Mrs. made me think as much as he did !!
