This first week of the reign of Lady Alex went very much with honours going North of the Border. Perhaps not surprising, as I can now reveal the chosen Link Words were as follows:

Jute MILL(S)
SMOKED Salmon
TOLL Bridge
Bonnie DUNDEE

At least the first three links were within everyone's reach and there were plenty of points available for the early birds.

Well, the scoring was brisk for the Shrubbery Squad and three of the Link Words went in fairly quick time. First blood went to sarumite with SMOKED SALMON after only three minutes play. Applying the two-minute rule, bonus points were also picked up by Strix & Jules100 for the very same link.

At this same time, JIM(jools) hit home with JUTE MILL as Entrant #15, followed closely behind by Jools100 with the same link to add to the earlier hit to deliver a double whammy and pick up FOUR POINTS. An excellent performance!

At 09.13, another Scot lysander appeared on the scene as Entrant #23 with yet another JUTE MILL and a brand-new BONNIE DUNDEE to qualify for THREE points. However, the best was yet to come with gen2 making the last connection with TOLL BRIDGE and TWO other good predictions. He scores a total of FOUR POINTS from THREE hits and must qualify as HOT SHOT of the MONTH.
*** CHEERS ALL ROUND ***

The League Table at this early stage:

FOUR POINTS: gen2 & Jules100
THREE POINTS: lysander
TWO POINTS: AllyLally, forward, jim, kettledrum, sarumite & Strix
Nine others are off the mark on ONE POINT!
There were 52 entries and 6 names new to me! Welcome to you all!

This is crofter signing off for another week.
See you next week: Same time Same place
Hopefully Lady Alex will be here in person.
Until then: HAPPY LINKING!

:o)
I was feeling quite optimistic about my chances this month........got a bit of catching up to do now!!!

Thanks Crofter, it's good to have you back at the helm and well done gen2 and Jools
And I just LOVE smoked salmon so why didn't I write it down instead or Salmon Ring?
Well, at least one point between us this week.
Thanks Lady Alex and Crofter.
Repeat again for Crofter - so nice to have you back with us.
Thank you crofter & ladyalex. Well done also to Jules100.

The clues were all there for anyone to pick up. She came from Tayside and based her links on local features. She was about to go on holiday so didn't have time to contemplate the links for very long so would have gone with initial instinct. I tried to do the same.

By the way, some good news:- The Tay Bridge is no longer a toll bridge (as of the 11th of Feb) and neither is the Forth bridge.
Very grateful for my two, unexpected, points.

By way of no interest to anyone, my Scottish great-grandparents were married on the day of the Tay Bridge (as against toll which for most with cash in hand is a) disaster!
That would be the last Sabbath day of 1879.

Did people marry on Sundays back then?
Ah well ..there's always next week ...and the week after...

Thanks to ladyalex, and to crofter..good to have you back at the abacus.

Well done gen2 and Jools, and everyone who scored.

Yippee! I got 2 right - a big improvement on a score of zero over the last few weeks.

Well done to those high scorers gen2 and jools.
well done ladyalex...and anyone who scored.
As with you slaney...there's always next week...or next month!! :-((
Oh well Nil for me and 2 for Jim - I'll have to do something about that next week.
Thanks crofter and ladyalex. And well done Gen2 and Jules100. And all those who scored. See you all next week.
Yipee - a whole point already! The trend's with me, now! Roll on next week.

Well done to those more successful than I was.
Thanks Crofter and LadyAlex and well done you 2 top scorers. As I didn't post an answer until late afternoon am not surprised I didn't get any points. ( to be honest if I had posted at ! minute after 9 still wouldn't have guessed the links) Must try to be arouna at 9am next week!!!
Hmmm 2 points ...middle o the field ....is it here we go again , after all she dosent live far from me... great minds and all that....thank you Lady Alex and Crofter
Hello - sorry to be so late - thank goodness I'm not a bad loser.
No points yet again, and I thought I had got to ladyalex scottish clues..... not to be !.
Congratulations to the ones who did get it right,, especially gen2 after all your hard work over the last two months with the abacus.
Welcome back crofter, although you didn't change my luck
So pleased to be a part of such a wonderful bunch of people.....winning is not the important thing... it's the taking part.....good luck to everybody in tomorrow mornings KM....
Carry on linking !!!!!!
Just checking in with this to find I had two correct! That's a first for me, I normally score a big fat zero. Maybe I am destined to be on LadyAlex's wavelength for the next 3 weeks too although I sincerely doubt it.

Well done to the other scorers and thanks to Lady Alex and Crofter (nice to have you back btw)
