I am a christian too. The thing I find very interesting about these posts is their length. I was recently involved in a post that was quizzing over the alien v God question. It went on and on and on. With so many people apparantly non-christian, there does seem to be so much to say.

secondly, interestingly, the question here was "anyone a christian". So, it should have been a list of answers of me, me ,me, me etc etc. The question was not is anyone here not a christian. And yet, still all the non-christians feel the need to draw attention to their deliberate non faith.

God does not require us to believe in him for him to be God, but he desires us to.

I'm afraid people, that when your time comes to exit this world, a nasty shock is awaiting you. I know Im going to Heaven, and yes, I care deeply about this planet, this planet is my God's creation, and I am totally accountable to him to care for it. But, suppose Im wrong, suppose, I have made a mistake, when I die, I won't know about it at all; however, if Im right, if there is a god and a heaven and a devil and hell, You are right up the creak...

You must all be gambling people. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. I won't see you in Hell, because Im going with the other bloke

:-)

Ive just remember a really cool story:
man goes in to the barbers. Has his hair done and looks great. During the consultation, they get onto the subject of God. The barber is totally anti. "I've never seen anything to make me belive in God he says. What is there that convince me? Nah, it's a mug's game." The customer didn't press the issue, he didn't want to end up with a naff hairdo.

On the way out of the shop, a tramp past by the door. he was old, and dirty and had long straggly hair and a long beard and looked really unkempt.

The customer grabbed the tramp and took him into the shop, he announced to all that he no longer believed in barbers, for here there was a man with long hair and a long beard, how could there be a barber in town with a man like this?

The barber laughed, "What are you talking about, he's got long hair, because he never came to me. If he'd come, I'd 'ave cut his hair. But he never came, Ive been here all the time."

"exactly" said the customer. And went home..

Jesus said, "No one comes to the father except through me. ....Ask and the door shall be open to you." (paraphrase)
God did not create us imperfect, we were created perfect. Man spoiled the realationship when he ate from the tree of knowledge, which God always knew he would do. This is important because it did give us free choice. Adam and Eve choose to eat the apple.

Imagine this, you are about to get married. The person who is marrying you is not marrying you because they love you and desire to be with you, but because they have no other choice and have been made to marry you.

Wouldn't you rather have a spouse who was just crazy about you and wanted to spend their lives with you, rather than a spouse who had no other choice? God gave us our free well so we could choose to be with him on our own accord.

in the fall (original sin) not only did sin enter the world, but decay and delpletion and the whole natural state not working as it really shoul, not being perfect. Natural disaster occur today because our world is imperfect and is becomming worse and worse by the year. People are becomming worse, and disease is occuring more frequently. Sin is like dry rot, it multiplies and decays all that it is on. (more)
Disease is in the world because we are no longer perfect. Our once perfect DNA of Adam and Eve has become polluted and spoiled and mis-sequences are being passed on down the generations. Imagine and old Xerox machine or a photocopier etc. You take a copy of a really lovely painting. An original, a work of art. The copy is a good copy, it's only detectable from the different texture to the original. In all other ways, colours, clarity etc, it's perfect. Now take a copy of the copy. Umm, some missing pixels here and there. Now take a copy of that copy and repeat this process several thousand times. By the 7 thousandth time, you are going to have a copy which is so far removed from the originaly beauty that it is barely recognisable. Are you going to blame the painter for the poor quality of the copy? Unlikely.

Being a christian is not a magic wand, we don't magic our problems away; oh look I'm a christian isn't everything dandy, and frankly I resent the inference; being a christian just alters your perception and your reaction to the normal, every day things that happen to you. Prayer is a powerful weapon and sometimes God answer's your prayers in exactly the way you want, but mostly, I pray that God's will be done. I don't have a shopping list I give him at the beginning of the day, I have placed my life in his hands and I trust that he will lead me to "carry out the tasks that Christ prepared for me to do". He will guide my way. THis gives me so much comfort in such a turbulent world. I prefer to think of God as not God, but as Father. (more)
Lastly, (and then it's bed time),

You guys who do not believe, seem so angry and hostile, you almost seem as though you are trying to justify your unbelief to us. Christians down the ages have been ridiculed and persecuted, but you know: we are still here. Do you not think that the 'brain washing' or the 'phase' would have petered out by now if there was nothing to it, especially in our new culture of so much more of everything. you would think we would have found something easier to fill our lives,.

We haven't because we are already content. We stand here before God, and before you , unafraid of our beliefs and without the need to defend ourselves. I know where I will be standing when the wheat from the chaff is sorted. Do you???
Yes - I will be dead :)

It's not defending my beliefs, anyone who has read my posts will know that I am fascinated by what I see as a form of mental illness and social parasite being so actively swallowed by so many people. I believe that religion as a belief system is intrinsically opposed to what humanity should strive to be, and I don't think we will ever get there spouting sunday school stories. You too are full of fear and certain amount of pride that you have made the 'right' choice, this is why you believe, not through any of the values espoused by your god. I have not come across any xstian who has been able to rationally substiantiate their beliefs nor one who has not really believed for selfish reasons.

Also, your stories are so full of holes I am surprised you don't spot them yourself. Good for children, not for adults.

The human mind has a certain way of being open to information, absorbing what it wants, not what will lead to the truth, and a bias towards twisting and bending and filtering, promoting ideas and confirming others. This setup, I believe, leaves it predisposed towards religion. This doesn't mean that it's right. It means that even if it's wrong, it can be readily accepted.

To me, religion is similar to death. What is life? It is the absence of disorder. With death, we fall apart, into pieces. A living death can be experienced in the religious mind. It is disordered at a fundamental level.

The form it takes is like a system virus, rather than a hardware fault.

Religious people, you are in such a bad way, and you have no way of knowing it. "Hello!" from the outside

If it's ok for others to voice their admiration of Bush, I think it's ok for me to criticise him.

I know a lot of good people, with good hearts, who are not christians. Are they all destined for hell?

Every God thread has that comment now. The believers say they are going to heaven and the rest of us to hell. They are unaware how little that approach helps their case. And the 'Pascal Wager' is just pathetic.

Question Author

Blinky blinky:

I don't want to be mean, but honestly, they will all end up in hell. The Bible tells us that unless you have given your heart to God, you will not be accepted into heaven. All that non-christians have to do to go to heaven is say the abc's of becoming a christian.

A -  stands for admit. Admit to God that you are a sinner. B stands for beleive. Beleive that Jesus is God's son, and that he died on the crossto save us from our sins. C is confess. Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as your savior and lord. Since God made it that easy, we have no reason not to pray a prayer telling him that stuff. If you never ask God into your life, you will go to hell. Jesus loves you and will be sad, but he has no reason to let you enter his kingdom. Just keep in mind that someday we will all sit in front of God and he will remind us of every sin we've ever done. I sure would like to be rewarded after going through all that. not punished by living in hell.

so a 3  year old that hasn't had the chance to hear your words of wisdom but dies before his time will go forever to a fiery pit? WAKE UP MAN! It's ALL MADE UP! It doesn't even make sense!

LOVING GOD<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>BELIEVE IN ME OR GO TO FIERY PIT FOREVER

They cannot coexist. Wake UP!

FCAWarrior, a man lives a blameless life. Not merely blameless - he is loving and compassionate, he is always on the side of good against evil, he risks great dangers to help others, he diplays great courage, leaping into stormy waters and running into burning building to save drowning and burning fellow humans, he lives a long and fruitful life and is universally respected and loved, and then he dies, and your god sends him to hell where he will suffer unimaginable horrors for all eternity. And why? Because he didn't belong to your club.

What a nice god.

And another thing - you quote the bible, but who wrote the bible? Before you say that it's the word of God, how do you know? Do you know the history of the manuscripts, how they were put together, who put them onto paper - were you there, thousands of years ago, to see God dictate those words, or are you just trusting what other people tell you and what you have read? How do you choose who to trust and who not to trust. A christian says "Believe in Christ." A scientologist says, "Believe in the alien Quarzo who flew in his golden spaceship thousands of years ago to save mankind" (or whatever). How do you choose? It's faith isn't it. And that's the problem. It's faith, just like the scientologist, the sikh, the hindu, the muslim... You say "I know it's true," but you shouldn't use that word "know". It's not knowledge. Just say "believe" and when someone asks you, "Why do you believe?" just answer truthfully - "Because it gives me a nice feeling inside."

It's not shameful to want that nice feeling - I want it myself. But it's not that easy. Becoming a christian seems to me like setting out on a great journey and then, after travelling for five minutes, stopping and saying, "Well, this is a nice spot. Let's stop here. What a lovely view!" You're going to miss out a lot of danger and hardship and dark fearful times, but you're going to miss out a lot of deep good stuff too. The world is a mysterious place - your mass religion only scratches the surface. No offence intended, this is how it seems to me.

if a child dies, he will still go to heaven because they were not old enough to be held accountable for making a decision like that.

Question Author

there are tons of really nice people out there, but to go to heaven, you must have prayed to God and asked him too be your lord. to be in control of your life.

no, i wasn't there a thousand of years ago but i do believe the words in the Bible. I bet you that there isn't a single scientist that ever existed that could answer every question you have. god can tell you everything. his followers wrote the Bible using the words God spoke to them. no matter what you,re going through or what you need to do, you can find answers in the Bible. if you can find proof of every detail to any of the other reasons for existence, i give you props. but the only place i have found with all the answers is Jesus Christ.

I don't know about every theory of creation, but i do know that we were not evolved from monkeys because it's not logical. every detail was recorded in the bible. that's what i believe in.

Becoming a Christian is setting otu on a journey. It's an awesome adventure! when we give our lives to God, we are born again. God has taken our lives and masde it fresh. Christians still go through hard ships, but with God's help, you can get through it. Christians aren't always happy, but we always have joy on the inside because of Jesus's love for us. Our journey with God never ends. each day is a new adventure. we will face our share of hardships, but through those struggles, God is preparing our hearts to accomplish whatb nhe created us to do. God will never give us a task that we cannot handle.

also, Being a christian doesn't just provide you with a nice feeling, it gives you a hope for what's to come. I have faith in Jesus and sure that makes me nice and cozy inside but it also feels me with a love incomparabke to anything i've ever felt before. My relationship with GOd is like a friends. I tell God my struggles, i tell him my achievments, i even share my most embarrasing moments. God loves to hear these things. he longs for a relationship with you too. Jesus loves you more than anyone., he died for you! He would do anything for you. If you talk to God, he will always answer, itmight be yes, or no, or wait.if yuo want to have this relationship, all you would have to do is pray the sinners prayer. you tell Jesus that you know you're a sinner, ( everyone is, and after you become a christian you will still be, but God will forgive you if you ask.) you also need to tell him that you know Jesus is his son and that you want him to stay with you forever and to guide you in your decisions.

Question Author

blinky blinky, i understand what you mean completely. Before jesus was my savior, I use to think - God let me wit untikl after i' ve had my fun. but God doesn't want you to live a boring life. he likes to see us enjoy ourselves. there will be somethings that aren't acceptable for you to do, such as getting drunk,( god doesn't want us to do anything harmful to our bodies) or having sexual relations before you're married. but you still have fun.

Christianity isn't just a religion, it's a lifestyle. Everyday, i pray and read the bible. you can't just go to church and expect God to be pleased you have to daily submit yourself to God.i understand what you're saying, but  christianity does more than scratch the surface, we believe that Jesus mad eus, he also formed the Earth.

Question Author

Sorry for the grammar mistakes, I was hurrying.
Right lets do the point by point thing again;

1. 'To go to heaven, you must have prayed to God' - why?
2. ' i do believe the words in the Bible' - why?
3. 'I bet you that there isn't a single scientist that ever existed that could answer every question you have' - do you think that's relevant?
4. 'god can tell you everything' - I wait to be astounded by his revelations. You do have some right?
5. 'you can find answers in the Bible' - that doesn't tell you anything about the subjective nature of the material?
6. 'but the only place i have found with all the answers is Jesus Christ' - you have all the answers?
7. 'He would do anything for you' - what has he done for you?
8. 'every detail was recorded in the bible' - apart from, say dinosaurs - do you take it literally?
9. 'but with God's help, you can get through it' - are you not continually amazed at those who cope without god?
10. 'Jesus that you know you're a sinner, ( everyone is - care to establish exactly what sin is?
11. 'you also need to tell him that you know Jesus is his son and that you want him to stay with you forever and to guide you in your decisions' -why?
12. 'he likes to see us enjoy ourselves. there will be somethings that aren't acceptable for you to do' - why?
13. 'Christianity isn't just a religion, it's a lifestyle' - where you fail everyday?

If you can come up with rationally cohesive answers to merely those 13 points I will be amazed. . . If not, perhaps you would care to admit you are irrational . . .?
Question Author
  1. God isn't going to force christianity on you, it mustbe you're choice. luke 11:9 says ask and it will be given, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. if you never ask God for salvation, you'll never get it.
  2. I believe what the Bible says because it is the word of God. I know you think that isn't a good reason, but it is for me. I've witnessed this year God moving in my school and I know that there is noone powerful enough except him to do the things that have been done.
  3. what i meant by that was that noone can find answers to all of the questions asked about different theories of existence. God is the only theory that is anywhere near logical in my book.
  4. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that, but just about every question you were to ask, can be supported to some degree in the bible.( not questions about like your science project, but questions about your life.)
  5. once again not entirely sure, but I do know that God wanted to give us rules and give an example of how we ought to live. that's why he gave us the bible, to provide answers for the struggles we go through.
  6. No, I don,t have all the answers. But if I am going through hardships, somewhere in the bible, there will be something to help me get through it. If you read the bible, you could be able to find answers to your problems too.
  7. EVERYTHING!!! He gave me life! he sent his only son down to Earth to die for me! He has shown me unconditional love! He has been there for me in bad times, and good times. He has even prepared a place for me in heaven and is waiting for the day that eternity begins and I live with him. Most importantly, he has given me love and opportunities to witness to my friends and to show them what they could have if they just believed.
