Anything Mr fruit has asked me to make a list so he can choose something from it for my xmas present well I have been racking my brain all afternoon and although it sounds ungrateful I really dont need or want for anything we are not well off by any means but In this day and age theres not a lot we want for and it just makes me realise just how lucky we are.

Not really uba I have just replaced my hairdryer that is what I would of asked for but needed one that was a month ago now

I'm the same, fruit. Mr T keeps asking me what I want and I keep saying, 'Nothing, thank you.' I can't think of anything I want or need.

What we have done is not buy close family presents (except the kids) but then all go out for a nice meal together in January or February. Mind you this can prove expensive, the place we went in January didn't have any wine on the menu under £52 a bottle!

Expanding on Prudie's idea how about treating yourself to Christmas dinner out as a joint present.

I know what you mean. We aren't rolling in it, but do buy what we want anyway through the year. If it's too expensive for me to buy, i wouldn't ask him for it, either. Maybe a night out together?

Do a personal 'IOU' to each other, that you can redeem sometime through the coming year - you can pretty it up and print it out to keep.

I have told my husband that if he does not know what to get, and I don't really want anything, a voucher from Boots is brilliant, and I can get what I want, as and when needed. Did this before and it works perfectly.

Same predicament every year for us also. We decided one year that we'd each buy our own present, wrap it and the giver had the surprise of not knowing what they were giving, worked quite well, except he didn't like what he'd bought for himself.
At the moment, there's a Tesco carrier bag on the dining table with a very bright yellow book inside and as we'd been joking about who would buy for whom the new Ian Rankin book, I'll try and look delightedly surprised on 25th.
One thing we've never done is buy each other expensive presents for Christmas or birthdays, a Terry Chocolate orange for my 50th and I loathe them, we tend to stick a £10 limit on it or buy a joint present for ourselves that we need for the house.

you are very lucky you don't need anything, so why not ask him to make a donation to a charity on your behalf.

I've only got himself something small (a male 'bracelet', bit like a surfer/hippy thing as he already has two (silly old sod - one has a Buddha charm on it) but this one has a chunky, hand-made silver bead hand engraved with the kids' initials). I don't want or need anything (and he recently bought me an unexpected gift).

A refreshing post, fruitsalad. Well done you. It is good to read of someone who is content with their lot, though it may not be a huge lot by others' standards. Just goes to show what is important to some people. I trust you and yours have a lovely Christmas :)

We too are lucky so we look for concert tickets that we both like and that is our gift to each other. This year it will be Alfie Boe only draw back is it isnt until next december!

Yes, I feel the same and it's really difficult trying to come up with an idea for someone to buy for me. I usually give any ideas I have to our offspring to buy my OH and then have no ideas left for me to buy!!

Sometimes it's the daftest little bits and pieces that cost very little that are well received because there has been love and thoughtfulness behind them.

However if Mr Fruit is looking for ideas could I suggest a beauty treatment in a local salon (hot stone back massage is heavenly) or a 'voucher' for a theatre production or cinema tickets in the future.
