In their case, they have decided not to buy each other presents but rather to take off to Tavistock for one night to one of their fav hotels, the Bedford, and go to one of their wine tasting and dinner evenings, both of them enjoying this.

well, if you don't want material things, how about an experience, a red letter day or something?

I'm the same and was delighted when my daughter found me a vinegar bottle for 60p in Wilkinsons for my birthday. I've been moaning for months about having to buy and throw away Sarson's vinegar bottles with the hole in stopper because it's not refillable and the cheaper Asda malt vinegar doesn't have a stopper with a hole in it. My elderly mum lives with me and she couldn't manage to hold the cap over the neck to let just a drizzle out.
For christmas I want an old fashioned, insulated, plastic butter dish as my mum and dad have buttered toast in the morning. Can't find one anywhere. The butter must go inside with a lid on top and not sit on a plate with a cover...I'm cheap but fussy!

Carrot. Tupperware do one that you describe. I have one. I like the idea that it doesn't break if it's banged or dropped.
Mic nor I have not bought each other Christmas, Birthday gifts for years. If I want something or he does we discuss and then buy. Before you tell me we're lucky, years of hard work and saving when colleagues were out pi$$ing it up the wall. My present predicament says, was it worth it.
