Are these still sold a lot? My mum had one on the other day, which was hanging down below her skirt When i mentioned it to her she informed me it was because the elastic had gone because it was one i'd had when i was about 14 (23 years ago!) she still had it cause she couldn't find one in the shops that was the right length for her (knee length on a 5 foot person)

Yes they can still be bought and indeed I have been known to make my own petticoats lol.
There are loads on EBay - just put in waist slips and they came up, some were in three different lengths so they might suit your mam.

where are they sold?
bought my mum a couple in M&S last year. Think they were 23 inches
had them years ago bednobs, not sure if you can still buy them, nobody seems to wear underslips these days, maybe try M&S......
'Fraid I do welshi lol..modesty and all that <ahem>
Question Author
when i was a youngster, everyone used to wear them!
if someones was showing you used to say "your charlie's dead" i have no idea why!
I bought my mum one approx 12 months ago from BHS and also Bon Marche had them too :-)
Yes I remember that bednobs but like you not sure why the phrase lol.
Hi daisy, I don't wear them anymore cos I wear trousers mostly nowadays, and the only skirts I own have a built in underskirt, otherwise I may be searching for them too!.........
Ah right welshi, I shall have to remember the built in ones then lol same difference 'cept you don't have two things grabbing at your waist lol.

oh, we have a bon marche - i might look in there for her
yes daisy!....I don't wear skirts often, prefer pants really, but have a few Per Una ones, and they have an underskirt built in, much more comfy!...thinki I still have a couple of waist slips tucked away though, just in case I need them!......hoarder!.........lol............
I've bought them from both M&S and BHS recently.
Wonder if they have my size....
You don't wear slips under kilts, DT
Oh yes bednobs, they may do them, and as spudqueen said, M&S and BHS have them too!........sorted!...
Damn, I knew I was doing something wrong.
'charlies dead' apparently refers to King Charles II who was a bit of a ladies man. When he died, women out of respect flashed their petticoats.
