Sent whisky to my old comrade (he's 85 now) via Amazon. Delivery driver demanded to see his ID (he's eighty-five, and looks it!), shouting that he was going to 'take it back if no ID', and that it had to be 'driving licence'!

Now, as it happens my old (British Army veteran) pal still has a licence, and produced it, and the stroppy driver thrust my mate's gift into his arms and went off, huffing.

Tried complaining to Amazon. Might as well have spat in the wind. No real apology, comment on 'Chat' 'Well, if it really happened, that's not good enough'(!)

Is there any way of complaining to Amazon via post? They seem to have shut their emails down (using covid-19 as an excuse - ain't it great, it's an excuse for everything!) - and you HAVE to go through 'chat', which is basically you saying what's wrong, they not really reading it, and good night.

Allen, I am sympathising with someone having to do their job properly.
Himself (British Army veteran, clearly well old enough) had to show ID to take delivery of my new kitchen knives on Saturday - did he make a fuss, no he didn’t. He showed his ID and the let the driver get on with his time pressured, poorly paid job.
I wonder if the OP was actually present at the time of this most distressing altercation, or is he simply reiterating, with some embellishment, his elderly friend's rehashing of it?
I can believe the shouting. They have to distance at the moment, so I'm shouting thanks to them as well.

Go on, guys and girls.

You have the last word - you’ve got nothing else.
Cheers:-). It surely isn't that traumatic to need to show ID for alcohol?
So the driver asked for Id, as required, the recipient complied, and the driver gave him the goods, albeit a little stroppily, so we are told.
I honestly think it’s time to move on.
No doubt the delivery driver also thinks it’s a ludicrous requirement for an elderly man to prove his age but it is a requirement of his crap, poorly paid job that he would like to keep.

Did your friend actually thank you for the gift or did he just complain about the delivery driver?

My friend, a veteran of Northern Ireland, of course thanked me for remembering him. He was insulted by the driver, and mentioned the incident to me when I phoned and wished him a happy birthday, and asked him why he sounded put out.

A brave and honourable man, who treats all comers equally well, never discriminating on racial or ethnic grounds. He would not, of course, fit in well round here.

A lovely gift for a friend, hope he enjoyed his Birthday.
Is that meant to change our opinions?
Breaking news: Toys exit pram.
I've had hundreds of parcels delivered by Amazon and never had an altercation with the driver.
And that's despite 90% of them being foreign....unbelievable eh?
Did your friend refuse to show his ID at first?
Why otherwise would the driver threaten to take it back?
Sounds like maybe two folk who got out of bed the wrong side that day, but it’s impossible to say.
allen didn't get the supportive replies he was expecting and has turned rather sour....oh well.
"A brave and honourable man, who treats all comers equally well..." Excepting, it seems, delivery drivers working at a fast-paced low-paying job, and probably face verbal abuse from many people throughout the day.
If a delivery driver was attempting to deliver whisky to me, I would show him my bare hairy *** if he wanted to see it!
Dats my boy! ;-)
Bottoms up, as it were.
That was never proven, Mum - er, I mean Mamya - actually I mean Lynne...
