How can I search for people with certain Initials?

I am selling a pair of cherished number plates and I want target people with these intials.

Is there a database that I can search on the internet?

people used to advertise them in the Sunday Times, though that was a few years back, so I don't know if it's still true. Loot and Exchange and Mart (or eBay, for that matter) will probably do. Sorry, that doesn't really answer your question, but you're going to have your work cut out finding a database featuring just people with the initials JNO who want to buy number plates.

Having said that, some other ABer may know just the place...

Well there are lots of places who will sell the plates for you ... try elite registrations .. or just type cherished number plates into the search engine ... are they good ones ????

Why would you search for people with certain initials. Surely if you just advertise anywhere, then anyone who sees the merit in buying them will be looking for them. I agree with j-t-p.

They are only worth what people are prepared to pay, so stick an advert in Exchange & Mart or eBay and wait for them to call you. If you sent me any messages asking me to part with cash for a number plate I would tell you where to go and I am sure I am not alone.

You are not alone, however, Not everyone reads Exchange and Mart, or uses ebay. It is just about effective marketing. You are not alone, I agree, however, judging by the fact that �1.2bn (source Dvla) was spent on Cherished registration numbers in the Uk last year, neither am I.

I have received a mail-shot specifically aimed at me offering a suitable number plate, so obviously it can be done. Obviously, if your plates are expensive because they are really unique then I am sure this would be the best way to sell. Someone who does not have sufficient interest, at the moment, to go looking for vanity plates will take interest if they are targetted because of the connection. Why on earth should they take offence if they are simply made aware of your plates, whether by mail or by e-mail - no way could that be considered spam.

Given that they're selling plates of the numeral "1" followed by 3 letters for �20K I think you're dreaming if you think you're about to get �100K whatever letters you've got.

If your target is ill defined then what you propose is indeed spam (or junk mail).

J-T-P***, If you knew anything about number plates you would know that numbers followed by letters are worth considerably less than letters followed by numbers.

The plates that I have are sequential (j-t-p, that means the numbers are one after another) they are 2 letters followed by the number 1 and the other plate is the same initials followed by the number 2.

I am targeting high net worth individuals who share these initials and would like one plate for their Bentley/Aston/Maybach and the other plate for their Porsche/Ferrari/Zonda�.. The cars don�t matter you can fill the gaps in��

Kempie, I am targeting these people as High Net Worth individuals and as such I wouldn�t call it junk mail I would call it enterprising marketing. I wouldn�t expect most of you to understand anything about enterprise as you seem to spend all your time on here bitching about other people and their fortune/misfortune.

I expect a cutting reply from you j-t-p***, however don�t worry I will put it down to Jealousy or stupidity, I will let you decide.

As for greed, well if you can, ask yourself honestly, if you had these plates,w ould you sell them to a broker for a pittance and be happy that he makes the profit?

I have no doubt at all that such a firm, with their knowledge and resources, do have a databank of various initials. They encourage people to contact them and see what can be offered to suit their initials, they are sure to keep this information. They are in the business of selling, so it is fairly simple to know who is living in an affluent neighbourhood - if their property is worth millions then a few hundred thousand to personalise their expensive car is a strong possibility. Assuming that the best plates are still changing hands for over �100,000 then it is still a lucrative trade - VIP 1 was selling for that sort of price many years ago - even though I think it was issued free of charge for the Popes vehicle on his visit to Ireland around 1980. It will cost you nothing to contact such a firm, they are unlikely to sell you their database and considering this is a one-off for you, you would have no long term use for it. They may however, undertake to mail all suitable contacts for a fee which is acceptable to you. Good luck anyway.

what business acumen are you drawing on which leads you to assume that an internet accessible database exists which gives the net worth and addresses of the very rich in direct contravention of the Data Protection Act?

If you have two number plates genuinely worth �100,000 and you think you can get a better deal by cold mail shotting people starting off in answerbank as opposed to negotiating a deal with professionals who deal in this trade day in day out I think you're mad.

Would you sell a house this way?

If I were you I'd be buying some of the top end car magazines like classic and sports car and talking to the guys advertising in there.

For the record my animosity comes from a deep dislike of the direct marketing industry so it's not personal as you're clearly not from that background or you wouldn't be asking us how to get a mailing list.

I have found a good starting point 192.com. This is where I can select company directors, Occupations, Locations etc..it just isn't quite detailed enough for me as I want to be more specific with my prospects rather than a 'blanket bomb' of mail.
