When I was a kid my mum used to to buy brown bread for my dad, we were never offered it, and for years I thought that only men could eat it. Did anybody else believe something stupid when they were a child?

to stop me touching electric plugs and cables - my mum told me that snakes lived in the cables so not to touch or they would bite me - I believed that load of crap till I was at least 9 or 10 !

If you lie on grass - earwigs crawl in your ears and eat your brains!!

I'm still scared of them & I'm nearly 30!

If you swallowed chewing gum you'd die.

Is it true,I'm 39 and still not sure!

My mum told me that the large ceiling fan in Sainsbury's (small shop - way back in time) was in fact a fly swatter!

I thought that sprinkling salt on your food, cooled it down!!
Stick your tongue out. If the wind changes, then it'll be out for ever.
When you flushed the outside toilet, monsters would be released, so you had to run indoors as quickly as you could. You made sure that your knickers were pulled up before you flushed or you would never make it.
i used to believe the chewing gum thing, well, actually, i still do, and so do lots of others judging by the amount of gum discarded in the street!
If you pulled funny faces and the wind changed, you would stay like that.

probably of the beaten track here but.......

when i was young i asked my dad for an organ for christmas and my whole family burst out laughing when my sister said i had already got one??

i didnt get it for years??

i used to think the prime minister could only be a woman. I also used to think if you walked through a cemetary you had to be careful because "its where they bury people" i used to think "they" would jump out frfom behind tombstones and literally bury you if you wernt careful
You all should visit the following site: http://iusedtobelieve.com/ - it's full of fun and sweet stories like your own about things that people believed when they were small.

Myself and my sister used to think that broccoli was actually called 'baby tree' and used to make little forests out of it on our dinner plates. :o)

My grandchildren still make "forests" out of broccoli trees. I love that website!

I thought if you swallowed apple pips then an apple tree would grow inside you!
If you looked at lightning when it strikes you would go blind
I was told to eat up my bread crusts if I wanted curly hair......I`m still waiting 60 odd years later! Mind you, I tell the grandchildren to eat their fish to make them brainy so I`m not blameless myself.
