Why do some Muslims believe that blasphemers should be killed?
119 Answers
I understand that some Islamic countries prescribe the death penalty for blasphemy. Is this because Sharia ordains it? If you are a Muslim do you agree with this?

To answer the original question... It is simple logic, if you kill everyone that disagrees with you then you must be right.

Noami – Don’t worry about what I am saying. You tell me what you are saying. You don’t need to trawl the internet. You know that there are not many women in the fields I mentioned. My question is why?
You still haven’t answered that why women do not fight men in heavy weight (or any weight) boxing and why men and women don’t run together in races? After all they are same so why not let them compete with each other?

The 'physical' differences between men and women are far more pronounced than any differences in intellectual/mental capacities. That is the only reason that men and women do not compete against each other in sport.
Very simple to grasp, that.......
If you are asking a female "why" women are less successful in the business world, they will tell you that there are many men who hold similarly backwards views as yourself and simply prevent women from doing so.

I thought even you had more intelligence than that. I think we have mostly established that there are some physical differences between a male and a female, and one difference that im sure no one denies is that in general men are physically stronger than woman stronger.

Well done Ratter – you may get a pay rise now.
Jackthehat – So physical capability is the only difference is it? Are there no differences in emotions and physical limitations between men or women? So OK, for sports but whats wrong in having more women in Police, military etc? So the men who hold women back (as you suggested) perhaps do because of Sharia law then without knowing.

I don't know quite how else to say it, I'm afraid.
You asked me about sport and I answered in that context.
There are many women in the police and the military.
No, I think you'll find that those men are backward looking sexist dinosaurs many of whom seem to hold the same views as you.
And please don't take that as any commendation......I don't intend it as such.

Nox, you made me laugh. :o)
Keyplus, //You know that there are not many women in the fields I mentioned. My question is why?//
Em10 gave you the answer – and you, yourself, gave the answer in your link - but you chose to ignore both.
Everyone else: Although within Islam as well as within the rest of the world, bullying is not merely confined to the physical, clearly physical strength counts for much with Keyplus. He doesn’t seem to understand that, to any intelligent person, no man worthy of the title would ever beat anyone – least of all someone physically weaker than himself. However, Keyplus sees nothing wrong in beating a ‘disobedient’ wife. (See his post at 13.44 Monday in the Sexual Discrimination thread in R&S).
Karen Armstrong, the female British writer that Keyplus admires so much, is a former Roman Catholic nun, who says in the book that he is promoting ……
“Mohammed used the term ‘Jahiliyya’ [defined as’ ignorance of divine guidance’] to refer not to an historical era but to a state of mind that caused violence and terror in seventh-century Arabia. Jahiliyyah, I would argue, is also much in evidence in the West today as well as in the Muslim world.”
Perhaps he missed that bit.

I believed i covered the fact that women in British society have taken some time to get a degree of equality, because of the inequality of laws preventing them becoming doctors, teachers, ad nauseum in the past, that isn't the case now
Keyplus, you seem to think that because a woman cannot physically outbox, wrestle, run faster than a man that she is somehow unequal, what absolute nonsense. Women are now part of the military, and indeed in many countries around the world. They don't fight on the absolute front line here because the fear of the men in charge, nothing to do with how the women soldiers feel. Women are part of this world, but have been treated poorly, and continue to be so in many parts of the world.
laws can be changed and for the betterment of women. No woman should be stoned to death for adultery, raped and then made to marry the rapist, as was a case the other day. Nor should they be shackled to a man because their family says so, and not be able to get out of the marriage because the husband doesn't agree.
Sorry that the original thread, a good one has been hijacked, i am guilty too, but i find your stone age mentality hard to understand.
I have read through the whole thread, and at times i wonder how you manage to be so backward in your beliefs, and it is why i worry how Britain will be in 5 years, 10 years time, will it succumb to such backward men who think that women's role in life is to produce children and then shut the hell up. I am not one of them, and perhaps by the time you grow up i will be long gone, i surely hope so.

Em, it must be difficult for the children of people like Keyplus to be confronted with antiquated and restrictive beliefs at home and 21st century culture outside the home. For example, I can’t imagine many of them continuing to agree to marry someone of their parents’ choosing. The chances are outside influences will eventually take precedence – and I sincerely hope they do.
I have read some chauvenistic diatribe in this site before but I think that keyplus takes the biscuit = Arrogance does not prove that you are right and to quote an old saying "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit"... Instead of casting veiled comment about the intelligence of contributors here why did you not stick to the point of the thread... "DO YOU AGREE WITH THE DEATH PENALTY FOR BLASPHEMY ?" It would appear that you have sidetracked the discussion to sexual equality.
My personal view is that life is priceless and no-one - no-one has the right to take it for any reason and those that do or have are pariahs in any decent society.

Jack – When women are different physically and therefore can’t fight against men same way women are different emotionally and are better on certain things than men but on the other hand men are better at certain things. Then come in the most important aspect and that is “SOCIETY”. And in any healthy society the best thing a woman can do is look after and give good training and education to children and we have learnt a bit after riots and a good number of news reports and researches that the only reason behind yob culture, and out of control teenagers is that parents (especially) mothers are either not there or are bad influence. Agree or not bad that is there and is truth.
Naomi – If by admonishing(first), (next) by refusing to share bed, (and at last) beating (and that is a different story what beating means here, as someone asked prophet about the meanings and he said as you beat someone with a twig, or miswak or in English take it as a tooth brush, now you show me how hard you can hit someone with a tooth brush? The main objective is to show displeasure and nowhere Islam or prophet says that beat your wife like you are in a boxing ring, and same prophet said so many times that the best among you are who are best for their wives. And Naomi, I have given it here for others as to you it would not make any difference and I know that) I am able to save my marriage, my family and my children then I will do that. Britain is right at the top of the world when it comes to divorce and we all know the results through broken families and how it damages individuals and society. And don’t forget that Islam gave these guidelines at a time when women were not even considered human. After all you agree that more and more women are marrying Muslims in the West. In other words they find them better than the others. So again if your equations are right then that means Muslims knows the meanings of these verses but you don’t.
You did not answer my questions; did you ever show your posts to your Muslim friends?
Finally, if Karen Armstrong was a catholic Nun then her book has no credential according to you. She has given references from the books written over thousand years ago. Perhaps you could do something like that with your immense intelligence.

Keyplus, does the Koran or any other revered writing of Islam, say that blasphemers are to be put to death or not?
Second question: Are 'family killings' part of Islamic law or tradition ? That is where the brother or father of a woman kill her because she has been associating with, or wants to marry, someone outside the faith,an infidel? If within Islam, what writing directs that or authorises it?

What has womens emotions got to do with it? Is this because they have periods?
I know far more emotional men than I do women.
And keyplus, just because parents separate doesn't mean they suddenly turn into bad parents and stop guiding their children. Bad parents will still be bad parents even if they stayed together. Unless, of course, you believe that women should stay in a very unhappy marriage for the sake of the kids? Which, in my opinion, is very damaging.

Keyplus, if the purpose of your posts on this and related threads is to support and / or propagate islam then I have to tell you that you have failed miserably. Your pathetic attempts to avoid answering questions, your distortions of truth and your blatant misogyny have confirmed what many people have suspected. If you are a typical muslim then your god has a lot to answer for.
Keyplus, still excusing a Muslim man’s right to wield control over women. Now we’ve gone from ‘beating them (lightly)’ on the Sexual Discrimination thread in R&S, to hitting them with a toothbrush! Pathetic! Keep going, Keyplus! Your prophet was wrong. You shouldn’t be hitting anyone with anything!
//After all you agree that more and more women are marrying Muslims in the West. In other words they find them better than the others.//
Better than others? What a very silly thing to say. Western women marry men from all sorts of cultures. Inter-marriage between people of different cultures is not the sole domain of Islam, you know. Look around you.
To answer your question, no I haven’t shown my posts to my Muslim friends. Why would I? They know what I think – and they agree with me. Men like you do nothing to encourage integration in this country, and you do the moderate people of Islam no favours whatsoever. In fact, men like you shame them.
You’re making it up again, Keyplus. I didn’t say Karen Armstrong’s book has no credentials. She is a former Roman Catholic nun who writes books about religion, spirituality, myth and mysticism. She is by no means aligned to Islam. Perhaps you should try reading some of her other books. How about the one on Buddha? Or the one about St Paul?
As for your rudeness, you know absolutely nothing about me, but I expect nothing more from you - so once again, I’ll overlook it.

Dave – I don’t think society is your speciality so you just play cricket. But then I am not sure how good you are there. And every time you post you think it would be last time but then you can’t help. What is your worry dave?
Fred – Seems to me that you joined in late and did not read all of the posts, but anyway,
No, there is nothing in Quran or in any other book what talks about death penalty for blasphemy. Family killing or honour killing as it is known better and that is what you are talking about has nothing to do with Islam or Muslims. It is cultural malpractice and has nothing to do with any religion or belief system.
Ummmm – for you I can only give one link, I am sure internet is full of these things.

Did I say that I am trying to promote Islam? That is a fear you have in your mind and Islam does not need someone promoting because it is truth, and the most practical way and therefore it is spreading. You don’t believe or do not like then that is your problem. Even a child born yesterday knows that how high propaganda against Islam has gone since 9/11, and same child knows that since them more people have accepted Islam. So you do not have to be convinced by me Jomifle. So don’t panic.
Naomi – Let me tell you few things if your intelligence have been unable to work it out so far, Your Muslim friends know what you think, I doubt it 100%. And what is your definition of a moderate Muslim? What should I do to be called a moderate Muslim?
1 – You have nothing to worry about how Muslims live and what they believe in because no one is expecting or forcing you to do it or believe in it.
2 – There is no Sharia law coming here and according to the Quran you hate, Muslims are supposed to abide by the law of the country where they live, and they are doing that, so again don’t worry and don’t panic,
3 – Muslims beat their wives or they don’t, still they are proving themselves better husbands and have the most secure family system anywhere in the world.
4 – If and when Muslims will be in majority here in UK, then they have a right to choose whatever law or system they live their lives according to and you should have no problem because that is exactly what democracy says and according to you, you (so far) believe in democracy.
