39 Years Outside Uk
42 Answers
If you'd lived 39 years outside the UK would you want to return to live there? Would you rather have a holiday to visit relatives and see new sites etc?
The place where you live has a bearable climate - you can manage without a heater in Winter but the Summers are extremely hot many years. (It usually takes most people about 6 months to 2 years to aclimatise completely - depending on age and how typical seasons are.)
You have an internet connection so you can see very well what is happening in the UK.

people are asking for clarification in order to give proper answers, and you are rude to them?
what did you want people to say?
from your garbled question there is only 3 answers that can fit
yes
no
maybe
there... happy?
i am assuming that this is because someone you know wants to move back to the uk, and you don't want them to, and cannot understand why they would want to after nearly 40 years, especially when the weather is so nice, and the internet means they can keep up with uk news anyway.
you are trying to convince them to go for a holiday instead of move back permanently.
well its a stupid question because it doesn't matter one iota what any of us would do - there is no right or wrong with a persons wishes and desires with something like this, and you cannot say to them "oh well everyone on answerbank says they wouldn't move, so you shouldn't either", as though that's some kind of definitive proof that they are wrong.
this answer may sound a bit harsh - but thats how you have spoken to people who are trying to help, so i figured thats how you wanted things to be here, and responded similarly.

I don't understand what the problem is with my trying to help direct people towards a more suitable answer.
As for the accusation of my being terse or berating - that's definitely not the case. For one thing I haven't mentioned anyone by name. I believe I have been concise in my replies but I see nothing wrong in that.

If you are settled where you are I don't see any reason why you would want to move 'back'. However, if you have parents with health problems and feel you need to help out etc then that's a good reason. Before moving back it might be worth staying there a year or two (let out house wherever you live) before you commit because the UK today is not the UK of 40 years ago.
As an expat I think I understand ST24's question. No, I don't want to return to the UK, ever. It took me 60+ years to discover that I was a foreigner in my own country. Here, I knew I was a foreigner the first day but I have more friends here than in the UK and life is so much more stimulating and enjoyable.
