If in a police statement someone uses the word "basically" about 4 times in one sentence, starting almost every sentence with "basically" is that a sign they are being untruthful?
Of course not. Yes it was hyperbole so sorry about that. It just annoys me that it seems OK for people to make sweeping nagative generalisations about our police while expecting them to continue to serve and protect their communities.
UK police officers are respected more outside this country than here and are sought after in many other countries. Recently Leicester was offering ten grand to the many policemen who have left for Australia to come back to the UK.
As regards the original post, should officers have an A level to be selected for the police?
Ignore mikey et al, colmc54, they are perfect examples of the anti British left wing who love to denigrate the police/forces etc. Guess who they'll call when someone breaks into their wheat grass shed and steals their stock of organic lentils? yep! you guessed it.
In answer to the OP - no, it's not, it's no different to the people who begin every sentence with "So,...." or say "obviously" when it's not obvious at all, or use the F word all the time instead of a more appropriate adjective. It's a bad habit brought about by poor vocabularly.
Boxy, the F word is as we know the most versatile of words, it can be a noun, adjective, verb etc but it is one of the few words thart is habitually used in tmesis.
No attempt to honour my son was intended or indeed necessary. Shock tactics to try and get people to recognise their hypocrisy was all. My effort was over the top and I have apologised.
In future I'll leave it to Tora Tora Tora who has done a better job than I.
