And this from Khandro earlier today…..
//[atheists have] a requirement for mutual support, barely noticeable among the religious and agnostics.//
How funny! I think he forgets what he's said. :o)

Now, now children, all this bickering.
But back to the topic in hand.
Naomi @ you may know your Bible, you can probably quote it chapter and verse, but at the end of the day, you DO NOT (I'm not shouting, just emphasizing) understand it.
With regard to Job - cruelty does not come in to it.
Satan imputed false motive to Job’s worship of God, alleging that Job served not out of pure devotion but for selfish benefits. He thereby placed in question Job’s integrity to God. Permitted to divest Job of his vast possessions and even of his children, Satan failed to crack Job’s integrity. (Job 1:6–2:3) He then claimed that Job was selfishly willing to endure the loss of possessions and children as long as he could save his own skin.
(Job 2:4, 5)
Job proved his integrity.
To day there are well over 8 million people who have proved their integrity to God and have absolutely no part of this world and its affairs. They are obedient to the laws of the land, respect the authorities but will not partake in wars or politics.

TWR@ I can sympathise. Growing old is not very nice. I have a very dear friend who has a terminal illness and to watch him gradually deteriorate is heartbreaking.
But this was not God's original purpose for mankind, that we grow old and die. Had Adam and Eve not rebelled in the Garden of Eden we would not be in this position. God's original purpose was for man to live forever.
In fact, Ecclesiastes 3 v 11 says - He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has even put eternity in their heart; yet mankind will never find out the work that the true God has made from start to finish.
