Does this depth of intrusion concern Facebook users? It would worry me - which is why I don't use it.

Scaremongering.
'For much of it, the answer is simple: because you told it.'
And, of course, it's now getting your What'sApp mobile number now so they can tie up more about you and pester you with ads.
If you're on W10, and use all the default settings (login with an email address, use Edge, Bing, and Cortana, then Microsoft knows pretty much all the same stuff.

I think that's true. Why people feel compelled to publish their personal life history on-line is beyond me.
I am old fashioned. I phone around all my friends to tell them what I had for lunch.
Yes,I never use FB either.

I was going to say,you wouldn't broadcast your telephone conversations to all and sundry but there again the amount of mobile users who turn public places into private ones is a constant scourge.
Naomi, with nearly 50,000 answers on here, you've 'given away' quite a bit of personal info. If I were an advertising algorithm, I would deduce, from looking at only a few of your answers, that:
You drink champagne
You like railway art
You like olives
You holiday in France Canada, Cuba Mexico and Spain
You have / like pets
You like cheese
You study (are a bit obsessed with) religion
You're a Harry Potter fan
You're interested in UFOs & the paranormal
You're divorced and have remarried
You occasionally meet up with old school friends
You have a bread maker
Naomi > Why people feel compelled to publish their personal life history on-line is beyond me.

Staggers me too.Talk about feeding the beast. It is also a tool for many to boast and cyber bully.

I'm sure it was Assange who said a few years back that 'FB,in particular,is the most appalling spying machine ever invented'.

However, users in most cases, create this environment with offloading their data with generous ladles...
Zacs - LOL you are a few microchips short of a processor!!

You forgot to add that Naomi can recite the Bible and Koran backwards...
It isn't just what you have told it. When I joined it was under Pixie Ab and a new email address. I didn't give my correct phone number or any other details and within seconds, the first few "suggested friends" were people I actually know. It could only have got that by going through my phone contacts.

Zacs-Master, haha! (I'd hate to lead the data collectors astray so I'll say now that much of that has been misconstrued).

agchristie at 09:03, indeed. ;o)

Pixie, I find that appalling!!
Exactly. If I 'like' something on Facebook which mentions a product or place it isn't necessarily because I like it, it's showing that I appreciate a friend has posted it. Sort of a 'glad to see you're enjoying yourself' thing.
Another fact about Naomi is that she has a deadly aim with a custard pie at 27.2 metres....
Yes- I can't think how else it could be and very regularly afterwards although they were always kept separate. I only had ABers on there.
Which could lead to her being bombarded with adverts to buy silent movies!
Question Author
Zacs-Master, I don't think the accuracy of the information they're gleaning is the issue, but rather the intrusion - as Pixie says into her list of phone contacts.
Question Author
agchristie at 09:07, haaa! Pud 'em up!!! :o)
There are settings to make them less intrusive. I get very few adverts.
I,doubt many Sun readers could find them tho.
