Over 300 abused women have signed a statement opposing Sharia courts and religious bodies, warning of the growing threat to their rights and to their collective struggles for security and independence.
You lefties really do deserve all that's coming to you.
Best learn which way Mecca is.
i did say if churches were to put to better use, if Christianity is dying out in the UK what use are they, births, marriages and funerals, that seems to be it.

people's choice to wear a cross of other symbol of their faith is their choice.
Islam is the religion of the misogynist ... I'm not sure how anyone can deny that.
we have gone right off the thread, which is a shame.
London is ever changing, in some ways not for the better that i can see, some aspects are good, we still have a beautiful capital, with rich life in it, galleries, theatres, films and a whole raft more to enjoy.
Mecca used to be along our High Street. The faithful would gather nightly for the ritual. Every so often a lone voice would shout 'House', to which all the others would reply, 'Jesus Christ!' I thought this odd as I expected them to shout 'Mohammed'.
All Abramic religions are misogynistic though Talbot, by their very nature. Granted Christianity and Judaisim are being hauled kicking and screaming into the 21st century as is progressive Islam, but take the fundamental versions of any of those religions and they really aren't pretty.
progressive Islam? Even the pram has a veil.

Ah right, didn't know that. I do apologise to all the misogynistic Muslims ... carry on regardless.
Ughhh I hate that picture.

kvalidir //They [sharia courts] have no legal basis in the UK to rule on anything else, and those who go before them ( by choice) have no obligation whatsoever to do what they say.//

Try telling that to an accused woman forced there by her father and brothers.
I notice that you addressed that remark to me Khandro and not to Jack despite us saying almost identical things. Funny that eh?
Also funny how the picture that was just posted of the stall supporting Sharia law was 'manned' exclusively by ladies.
kvaldir
perhaps on the instruction of their father, brother, husband, who's to know.
Ow do you know they was ladies? ;-)

“I live in South London which is probably one of the most multi-cultural areas in the UK. I know of only one largish Mosque in Croydon”

Have a look at this map, tigger:

http://mosques.muslimsinbritain.org/maps.php#/town/London

You will find 2 in Stockwell, 4 in Streatham, 6 in Tooting, 3 in Thornton Heath, 4 in Croydon, 2 in West Croydon, 2 in Lewisham, 4 in Brixton, 2 in Mitcham, 3 in Norbury, 4 in Peckham.

“They [Sharia Councils] have no legal status…”

Yes they do. Sharia Councils (and Beth Din Courts) are recognised under the Arbitration Act of 1996 as arbiters. However, the Act specifically excludes arbitration in divorce and childcare matters. However, there is no doubt that Sharia courts are ruling on these issues (even to the extent, unsurprisingly, of having different procedures for the treatment of men and women when dealing with “divorce”).

“…and their decisions only affect those who voluntarily submit to their jurisdiction.”

This is naïve in the extreme. Many Muslim women who have matters settled by Sharia Councils have no recourse to the “proper” courts. Family and cultural pressure means they have little choice but to succumb to an illegal ruling made by an unofficial court and this is compounded by the fact that the courts are devised by men, run by men and their decisions principally favour men. In reality many Muslim women suffer institutionalised intimidation to submit to Sharia Councils to have their family affairs ruled upon. Some of them are not even aware that there are “proper” courts to settle these matters, let alone have the facilities to access one.

I’m not properly answering the question (about the Islamification of London) because I’ve answered it many times before, providing specific examples of the phenomenon. But anybody believing that Sharia Councils (and they really are “Courts” to all intents and purposes) either do not exist or are only used voluntarily by the women who fall victim to them is living in a different world to me.

“It's slightly like going before the committee of a club you belong to,..”

Not even slightly.
Islay, that bit was my little joke. Sorry you didn't like it.
