What happened with the Romans and what happened with the Spanish and the Portuguese in the past is totally irrelevant to me in 2018. I don't want Islam to get a grip on any sort of power in my country. If that makes me Islamaphobic, so what... I really don't care.

you might say the same about christianity.
True in parts .Christians are still active in some of the countries listed The christian faiths in Syria for example have gone down from 25% in the early part of the 20th century to 11% today.
It's pretty accurate - although in some instances it took far less than a couple of hundred years.

Rather worrying.
Accurate but rather misleading. South America was once not at all Christian, until Spaniards and Portuguese Catholics went over there and virtually wiped out the natives, destroying the local religions in the process. Ditto Central and North America.

This doesn't absolve the early Caliphates of their own aggression, but it's clearly deliberately choosing a starting point that makes a specifically anti-Islam rant possible while ignoring the equally heinous sins of Christian expansion.
The spread of Christianity hasn't been ignored, Jim. The first poster mentioned it.

I see the problem being , at the present time, the most barbaric acts carried out in the name of islam.

Historic Christian brutality does not seem to occur now.
The image ignores it, so that woofgang saw the flaw doesn't detract from the deliberately-misleading aspects of that image that I'm also pointing out.
Jim, If it's accurate how can it be misleading? That makes no sense.
The Rohingya Muslims aren't having a particularly nice time at the hands of the nice gentle Buddhists at the moment either. You can make anything mean anything if you spin it right.
This appears at intervals, as has been said, the Christians have done it too, the Romans did it with the God Emperor across their expanded territories, it's one of those lessons mankind has yet to learn. Religion is not about God... it's about control.
"Rather worrying."

No, honestly, don't worry. That's what they want you to do.
Because it's deliberately selective. If you pick out a bunch of facts that hardly represent the entire picture, then you are trying deliberately to present a misleading picture. It's the difference, in other words, between the "truth" and the "whole truth".
Question Author
I don't think you can put a spin on the Islamic ideology.
Of course you can, and on Christian, Judaic, Buddhist etc in fact you can put a spin on anything.
Question Author
Nothing to worry about then, most reassuring.
So to summerise... Christians did it so shut up and accept it?
Time was when, by the standards of the time at least, Islam was at the forefront of the world, scientifically, politically, and morally. Freedom of religion existed even within the Caliphate.

The problems then stem from the rather sad fact that the world has moved on, whereas several prominent elements of Islam have remained rather static or have even gone backwards. Clearly it's more complicated than that simple paragraph... but still. The image in the OP is highly and deliberately selective, and that deserves calling out and challenging.
Question Author
Just to add, I did not write it , just stumbled across it.
I thought it was clear that you hadn't personally written this from the title.

Talbot: don't be silly.
