To me it smells terrible and I try to avoid it and those who do it while they are smoking. I don't do it myself but I'm ok with others doing it, as it's their choice.

Smoking doesn't bother me.
Same as it ever was.
No one can ever accuse me of being a quitter.
Smoking is bad.

Really wow, thanks for the enlightenment.
Doesnt bother me. If people want to smoke, let them. They pay more in tobacco tax than it costs the NHS to treat them, so I say let them get on with it.
well smoking is only bad for your physical health.. It's pretty good for your mental health aint it?
On the many occasions I've tried to quit I do find oneself getting tetchy for no reason.
as an ex forty a day man i'm puzzled as to where all the money I've saved has gone?
I used to be a heavy smoker for many years until my first introduction to major surgery about 16years ago and I gave up immediately. I still miss the nicotine . I have no objections to what people smoke but I do not want to be in their company when they do it. I don't think that smokers realise they reek of tobcco and contaminate everything around them with stale tobacco smells. I only learnt that when I gave up. :-(

What about heroin?
true, i didn't realise my clothes stank of stale smoke until i gave up

It was a Godsend when it was banned in indoor public places. Mae going out for a meal or a drink far more pleasant. The downside is that in the winter smokers seem to have to go in and out the restaurant/pub every ten minutes to slake their addiction. They usually do so by finishing off their conversation (with either those inside or out) by standing with the door wide open for a minute or two making the inside as cold as the outside. It seems part of the general lack of consideration many smokers show towards others (if they had any consideration they wouldn't smoke at all).

The next step is to ban it in outside public places so that you can only smoke in the comfort of your own home.

spath, your Guardian link is dated Aug 2004, has nothing changed since then?
I find it disgusting.

No problem at all. Providing their habit does not affect me i.e. burglarising my property or attempting to rob.If they wish to kill themselves then tough. No loss to me.
Fair play live and let live ay
We should compromise. People who want to stuff their fat faces with smelly food (revolting) should stay out of pubs and I'll stay out of restaurants.
Love it gave up but felt so miserable I went back
