I love this site... have been a member for far too long lol
I rarely post but am always here and as a vegan I am basically gobsmacked at times at peoples attitude towards my lifestyle choice and yes it is a choice. As is yours.
BUT [from the Vegan Society]
Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
At 47 years of age [50 this year] I adopted the Vegan lifestyle because I became aware of the apathy and my own jaded sense of what is right and wrong. Right to kill a pig... but not a dog? blah blah blah
Have you ever watched any documentaries concerning veganism? Earthlings? Cowspiracy? What the health?
Do you know what cognitive dissonance is?
I'm not posting this to be confrontational, I am truley interested in what people think :)
Not veganism naomi, but vegeterianism and I'm starting tomorrow when I go shopping for food. I totally agree with andres, there is far too much suffering in the animal world, all down to us. How awful for them to know they are going to die.
I can only comment on the few vegan friends I have but they all are totally obsessed with veganism. An obsession about anything is unhealthy I would have thought.
I know someone who's been vegan for 30+ years but he doesn't ram it down anyone else's throat. I think the issue is that when people convert to something, no matter what it is, they tend to be evangelical and slightly obsessed and want to convert everyone else. That's what gets peoples' backs up.
I'm sure you can Andres, but this is a discussion about Veganism/ Vegetarianism vs meat eating and into that is bound to come people's individual views. You stated that some people were cruel and hard hearted about animals yet you are perfectly at peace eating fish who also have lives taken to be put on your table. People are bound to wonder why one is important to you yet the other obviously isn't. x
///I can well do without a lecture from you on my beliefs thankyou! ///
And yet.....and yet..... this thread has been one big lecture in one way, or another....
We have been told that only vegetarians/vegans truly love animals and those of us who aren't are callous, at best, and unthinking/hypocrites at worst.
I can understand vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters but people who say
'I'm a Vegetarian but I eat chicken and fish'- I don't even know where to begin with that tbh...
I didn't eat meat for years, just fish, not for moral reasons, just don't like it very much, except duck, I love duck, but it wasn't readily available when I was young.
You can’t be a veggie and eat fish and chicken!!
As I have said before I have no issues eating meat I know where my meat comes from and how it is killed
Christ Andres, I've been really polite to you about this, I simply asked you a question on what is tbh a very judgemental thread.
I might not have ' been like this many years ago' but this place sure as hell beats all the flaming nice out of you. I might even just sod off altogether tbh, because it's like an absolute asylum here lately.
//My daughters grandfather is a dairy farmer and his cows are treated well. //
I'm sure they are. Their calves however, a necessary part of the dairy industry, are taken from their mothers within 24 hours of birth and the mothers cry for them in excess of 48 hours. The male calves are more often than not put down straight away and the females either kept for breeding or fed on formula milk in buckets until old enough to be finished off on grass for meat.
Calves bred for meat do have a better life however, staying with their mothers in the fields for up to 6 months before being weaned.
Calicogirl I might even just sod off altogether tbh, because it's like an absolute asylum here lately.
not much experience of real world forums I presume? This one is like a vicars tea party compared with most. Therz a lot of get the last word in luvvies on here like. Chill babes.
