I am currently going through a prostate problem, the hospital appear to be rushing everything which has made me a little concerned, I wont lie.
When these things come along I suppose we do all ponder the thoughts of our death.
As an atheist I have nothing to fear in death, the end is the end, I will be no more, end of, the parrot is deceased etc.
However! if I was a believer I would have to consider, would I go to heaven or hell?
I know a great many Christians as most of us do. Many of them are very pleasant and a fair few are vile untrustworthy and truly unpleasant people. Will they consider their place after death I wonder. Of course, most religious people feel they are going to meet up with dead friends, loved ones and relatives etc, have they ever considered that many of their loved ones may have gone to hell!
I think If I did believe in heaven or hell, it could be a very worrying time, whilst I have been a fairly decent person in my adult years, I dont know it that would make me worthy of a place in heaven?
What are your thoughts. Personally i'm glad as hell I dont believe in such tripe!!
Does life, in some form, survive death? I don’t know – but I can understand why the notion of meeting loved ones again is comforting. That said, if life in some form does survive death I suspect it’s a natural process rather than a religious one and therefore applies to all, regardless of belief, culture, or anything else. The concept of 'sin' and the...
A reason for having to experience life seems non-existent if there is no survival of whatever constitutes me. No continuing reason to just be and have purpose. Unsure God, Heaven or Hell have much to do with it though.
I'm another non-believer. I think when your time cones, it comes. Maybe we're wrong and there is something else out there, maybe we come back in another form, who knows? We just have to try and do our best while we are here, make sure we love those who deserve it, and do our best to make sure they can carry on after we leave the building.
I wish you luck with your problems fella, I'm sure you'll be a-ok.
I hope your prostate issue is nothing too serious ratter. If you were of the persuasion I would offer some prayers for you, but I would not insult you. I do send my very best wishes though. Re heaven we will know the answer when we die . ;*)
"how is there room for every single spirit to exist eternally"
If a spiritual realm is infinite there's plenty of room, or if an individual's volume is zero, again there's plenty of room. But space and time may prove to be an illusion anyway. We may already be "everywhere" at "everytime", for want of a better description.
Disposal of a carcass is irrelevant if all is irrelevant because there is no purpose for anything to be.
Didn't say there should be a reason, just pointing out that if there isn't we all go through this for nothing. Seems rather cruel. Like giving something then taking it away again, and all for nothing.
"Cruel" would imply an intention though.
The spirits part of my post, I was wondering more about energy (not my speciality...). If you can't create or destroy it, just move it somewhere else, where do the spirits come from for all the new babies?
And what is the point in all the stress of passing on our DNA if we are eternal anyway? Surely that alone proves we aren't around forever?
Speaking for myself, and maybe for many more, I would be more concerned of how I die opposed to what happens when I've died. I also believe as you age that concern increases, its a concern that most try and hide, and become a daily worry, that could be alleviated by having euthanasia in place for everyone who request it. But to give a positive answer to the question, no such after life I wouldn't think. Good luck with your treatment!!
Ok, thanks naomi. Fair enough, og... no reason we shouldn't see it as "cruel" if we like, I guess... although that doesn't make it any more or less likely to be true.
Ken of course it was a 'bold statement' and it's not something I say lightly. I have stated on here before things that have happened since my beloved Dad died and a message he gave me after I asked him for one. Also Mum experienced certain things involving Dad before she too died. I have also had an experience involving a lovely elderly lady many years ago who lived in my road, so I do know what I am talking about. I don't care if you, or anybody else doesn't believe me and I've said that before too! I am happy with what I have experienced and consequently with what I now know to be true, and that is all I care about.
Dear Ratter, you will be with Merlin for all eternity, I promise.
I won't be back on to defend myself again, I don't have to.
