Having been labelled on here as a racist, I would deny that claim most fervently for a variety of reasons, although I can easily see how somebody may come to that conclusion.
Racism, in whatever form it takes, needs to be called out, as it is am evil that denies our fellow man the very dignity that we ourselves demand and expect.
Most incidents of racism are directed by whites towards non whites, and therefore gain the headlines and the popular appreciation of the whole subject.
But I declare that racism is a two way street, and that racism in many forms is directed not only towards individual white people or groups of white people, but towards the very institutions and traditions that are part of our accepted way of life, and that such reverse racism, is equally dangerous and also needs to be confronted vigorously whenever it appears under whatever current guise it has adapted.
Do you agree with this, or have any constructive comment to offer?

i dated a black guy back in the 70's not a good thing to do by both communities so it seemed. We should have moved on a lot by now.
Indeed we should. I'd like to think that as a few.... shall we say 'entrenched' people....reach the end of the conveyor belt, thinks should get better but unfortunately these 'entrenched' views seem to pass down thru the generations. It seems that ignorance is perpetual.

I agree that we should have by now Emms, but when folk such as Theland keep making statements like some of the ones he's made on this thread, society isn't going to move an inch.
all sides of the divide zacs, i discovered that some Black people could be just as prejudiced as whites, that came as something of a shock, to my 17 year old self. Then again i didn't come across any black people because where i lived there weren't any, or so it seemed. It was only clubs and soul music where i got to meet other people from other communities.
You won't stamp it out, cos some will use any old excuse to dislike, hate their neighbour
'Pack mentality' and the need to protect your immediate pack is very deeply seated in our psyche. Some of us can rise above this, some of us obviously can't. And even deny it exists!
one last thing if a community is as insular as say the Asian community has been, how are they going to integrate into mainstream society. I see many areas of London now where there is wide segregation. Or that is how it appears.
Not all of them are insular, Em. Careful, you're on a slippery slope there!
its up to the children to pave the way, but if they are taught to distrust and dislike each other because of their skin colour or beliefs what do you do.
I posted on one thread that even young people can be racist and got a shocked "Really" in reply. Sins of the parents.

Sadly, that is true.

My wife was Deputy Head in a Catholic inner city school in the early eighties, and it had a majority of Muslim children in its intake.

The overt racist hostility she received from the top form boys, for being white and being a woman, was shocking, and they certainly didn't learn that at the school.
as said sins of the parents, if they teach their children that all blacks are bad or all whites are bad, how do you stop that.
zacs i didn't say all
On facebook find pastor biphakhati who helps the destitute. This is an orphan white boy in rags & bare feet begging in SAfrica. His parents murdered!

andy-hughes, being non muslim let alone a woman, a muslim will marry a non muslim, so long as she converts, that being said
being white if said woman converted, would never really be
excepted, as they are not from the mother country or father country oxymoron.
Interesting you bring him up Tambo.

To use BI Phakathi's own words - 'If we are to love as our Father in Heaven loves then we don't get to play favourites'.
we are a large population with widely held beliefs, not everyone is going to get along. We must accept that
Em, you didn’t say ‘some’ either ;-)
