Driving home today I was listening to Jeremy Vine interviewing A J West about his new book, 'The Spirit Engineer', which examines, among other things, the reality or otherwise of the spirit world and the trickery used by charlatans to convince people that they are actually contacting the dearly departed. Mr West threw out a couple of 'cold' readings and asked listeners to phone in if they thought anything he said referred to them personally. I arrived home before anyone called so I've no idea of the outcome. Interesting nonetheless.

So … have you ever been tricked by a trickster - and when did you realise you had?

This is the same old story, Corby, Examples are impossible to replicate. People can present accounts but what's gone is gone. Perhaps better to ask a sceptic for a rational explanation of a 'happening' - but then it would take confidence in the honesty of the claimant …. which is perhaps asking a lot of the sceptic who regards every account as either a lie or a delusion. It's a dilemma.
gawd is this still going on! PMSL, there are no psychics, psychic phenomena, nor any of the rest of the WWOTB. Anyone who think there is is deluding mostly themselves. ALL the tales without exception are part stories told to make it sound like they really did have an "impossible" experience. Cherry picking details omitting facts and explanations. It's one of the reasons religion takes hold, people want to believe it. No charlatan has ever demonstrated any sort of ability under test conditions. Complete and utter 100% ***, end of.

TTT, //ALL the tales without exception are part stories told to make it sound like they really did have an "impossible" experience.//

I told a tale earlier in the thread. A simple tale. What do you think I might have omitted?
"I personally know several genuine psychics.. Their abilities are unquestionable.." - they are very good, they've worked out how to con the weak of mind and make it look real. I Guarantee they'd get nothing out of me.
why would these "psychics" scratch a living conning the weak of mind when they could pick up $1m for a few minutes of controlled testing? because it's bowlocks. Why are they not winning the lottery every week? Bowlocks! end of.

TTT, you said 'end of' fifteen minutes ago. It wasn't.

Would you care to answer my question?

PP, Conan Doyle was a great believer - but disappointed. Harry Houdini uncovered many frauds.
08:48, don't know didn't read it, don't have to they are all the same. A Psychic tells you something they could not know, right? Wrong! There will be a build up like the long con, you won't even know it's happening, these people are brilliant, detectives, magicians, showpeople and above all genius con artists.
Naomi, can you tell me the time on this thread when you told the tale and I'll have a look.

Here you are, TTT.

//I once got a musical 'message' - which was quite beautiful and very relevant to me at the time - recorded on my answerphone from a mobile that was definitely switched off. //
It wasn't switched off or someone used the sim card and put it back.
there could be many explanations but it is human nature to want to believe it is some sort of "psychic" occurrence.
If dead people really can make music play on a mobile answerphone why can't they do something more definite like leave a message hello x it's y or something
Question Author
TTT. It was switched off.

Bednobs. I didn't say it was a dead person. I don't know how it happened. All I know is it happened.
the sim card could have been used in another phone and put back as a prank to freak you out. The message could have been left earlier than you think the clock could have been altered. We used to do no end of pranks on a religious loony I once worked with, very easy to freak them out! Was the song significant? What do you think happened?
Question Author
I initially thought it was someone having a laugh but it wasn't. The phone was in a handbag and switched off.
so what do you think happened? what was the song? was it significant to you?
