Driving home today I was listening to Jeremy Vine interviewing A J West about his new book, 'The Spirit Engineer', which examines, among other things, the reality or otherwise of the spirit world and the trickery used by charlatans to convince people that they are actually contacting the dearly departed. Mr West threw out a couple of 'cold' readings and asked listeners to phone in if they thought anything he said referred to them personally. I arrived home before anyone called so I've no idea of the outcome. Interesting nonetheless.

So … have you ever been tricked by a trickster - and when did you realise you had?

APG, it was not sarcasm, I was wondering if there were instances of your having had a similar experience following other serious accidents in the neighbourhood.

//so what is the form of this "energy" how is it stored?//

As far as I'm aware energy cannot be created and it cannot be destroyed. It simply changes form. I suspect the energy the body generates throughout a lifetime results from emotion - love, hate, sadness, happiness, etc, and the very real physical pain or ecstatic euphoria those emotions are capable of eliciting. What form that energy takes is unanswerable - but if it can't be destroyed it stands to reason that death is not the end of it. We know how thoughts and emotions are physically produced but we can't see them or grab them for examination. Nevertheless, they exist. We know they exist. I wonder if all that energy accumulates into what we call the 'soul' - and is that what's left when we die?

There have been experiments conducted under scientific conditions to weigh the soul - I think the figure was 21gm, but I know that's been criticised. I must remember to check it all again. Just flinging a few thoughts around. It's a fascinating subject.
Corby -yes it was sarcastic lol! We don't get many seriously accidents up in the Dales, and no, I don't get regular messages from accident victims.
corby // you weren't even aware the woman had an eleven-month old named Sydney, why would you have been selected to receive a "message" that meant nothing to you at the time?//

You don't understand. The message was not for me, I picked it up like you may hear a distant radio or conversation. It was not aimed at me it was a burst of energy released, and I picked up on it. For all I know a few other may have as well, but never found out the meaning and dismissed it as an 'earworm'
Though I can't really contribute anything, I'd like to thank you Naomi for posting what has become one of the more intersting threads of late.
The only odd experience I've had was in 1992.
I was alone at home preparing for a craft fair I was doing the next day. My husband was down the pub. This was in the UK. As I was pottering about, I was flooded with the most overwhelming feeling of sadness and found myself crying for no apparent reason. The next day, I learned that my mother in NY had suffered a stroke at approximately the same time and was in hospital. I've always thought of it a kind of connection with her at that time.

Thanks Pasta - and you have contributed something - something very important in my opinion. It's those thoughts again. You can't see them or grab them - but they're there. Where do they go? In that instance, I think, your mother's reached you from New York. There are more things in heaven and earth ... and all that.
APG believe it or no, I don't know where you live but if you think I was sarcastic when asking the question, there's little point in asking you any further questions.
naomi: " I suspect the energy the body generates throughout a lifetime results from emotion - love, hate, sadness, happiness, etc, and the very real physical pain or ecstatic euphoria those emotions are capable of eliciting." - that's not energy though is it, well not in the physics sense.
The metaphysics sense then. Free your mind Tora.

End of (or is it?)

I don’t know what it might be, TTT. I think of people who, in times of desperate need, somehow find the strength to lift a car off someone trapped beneath it. I don’t think the scientists understand what that is either - I believe they call it ‘hysterical strength’ - but whatever it is it’s energy of some sort generated by the human body.
It's something inexplicable that's impossible to get across to anyone who isn't receptive - of course people want to put forward logical explanations, that's human nature.

Sometimes they just don't apply.

I am not referring to'cold readings' and stage performers, I think we've largely explained them.

Mamyalynne, nothing is ‘supernatural’ in my opinion and I think there are rational explanations for the currently unexplained. We just don’t know what they are yet but hopefully some day we will. Right now man is not as smart as he thinks he is.
Supernatural is not a term I use either - agreed.
// and you have contributed something - something very important in my opinion. It's those thoughts again. You can't see them or grab them //
deffo need C G Jung Synchronicity
here synchronic between sadness and stroke

there is a whole book on this - plus.... group consciousness and group learning ( which has recently been disproven but what the hell)
and on u tube
Mamya, naomi, that was exactly my point. They are "unexplained" because nobody knows.
Same as religion.

That’s a mighty leap from suspecting everyone is deluded. (14.31 fri).
Naomi, it was you that used the word. Or someone else... I certainly would never have done. And actually, you've called me that several times on different threads, so clearly don't see it as an insult.
Once you asked me... whether they believe something potentially not true- I obviously can't honestly say no.
Question Author
I’m not responsible for your words.
Your words. "Deluded" is not a word I have ever introduced, and wouldn't bandy around. Maybe take responsibility for your own.
Particularly, as you use it as an insult yourself, instead of the real meaning.
Question Author
I don’t choose your words. You do.
