I come from birmingham and it really isnt all that monotoned or as simple sounding as most people believe.
"TV brummies" are not nomally from the area and whilst a midland accent may seem grating (a proper midland accent as opposed to exaggerated impression of a black country (near birmingham) accent)
and why do all these impersonaters speak so slowly?!

I don't have a favourite accent, I'm just happy to listen to anybody who can speak decent English nowadays.
And before you knock the S.African accent just remember there's more than one. I presume you are referring to the people whose home language is Afrikaans ( derived from Dutch ) not English speaking residents who actually speak clearer English than some in this Country.

Worst - whiney Geordie like the Big Brother commentator - I stopped watching to avoid his dreadful voice! (Geordie can be great)
Best - hard to choose, I enjoy regional accents like Norfolk and Devon, they sound like the summer. But I think it has to be English spoken as a second language by an island Scot. Dreamy!
