care to elaborate?
an eye for an eye is always taken out of context. People use it as they want to, it doesnt mean if you hit me, I can hit you back. It was originally meant to say that the punishment should be exactly equal to the crime, or that payment should be of equal value to the goods...etc

In Christianity, Jesus criticises an eye for an eye as did Gandhi!
No it's not. It's moronic and immoral.
Question Author
i was refering more to the crime and punnishment aspect of the phrase!
what I mean is do you agree with it?
sorry randomater,if i were to quote any of my examples....i'd be crucified on here!
A man kills another accidentally, Will you execute that man?
It is a moronic concept.
As long as the punishment doesn't involve breaking other moral codes, like murder etc. I wouldn't say that killing someone as a punishment is acceptable, although surgical or medical castration would be fine.
robb..if someone sh1ts on your head do you say ,thank's for the hat??
Question Author
so then you agree with capitol punnishment?
I would agree with anything that was just violence for violences sake. A flogging would achieve nothing other than pain, something to stop a pervert raping someone would have a use.
*wouldn't
Question Author
sorry i'm bit thick and didnt understand your last comment!
could you explain what you meant?
No
Question Author
oh ok i get it now
basic answer is no, I dont agree with capital punishment.

I would not like to see the death penalty reintroduced, and whilst I am aware lots of sex crimes don't actually involve a desire for actual sex, I am pro castration. I think these men should have their gonads removed (if severe or repeat offenders) and administered depo-provera to lower their testosterone levels.

'An eye for an eye' . . .
. . . is that anything like blind justice <"?
I believe that capital punishment is very necessary for any peaceful society. But long before that Justice system has to be fair and just. Wizards example is good in that sense. Had that person been prosecuted for abusing a child then once grown up that child wouldnt have to kill him. Had that person known that he would be punished severely then he wouldnt have abused the child in the first place.

For certain crimes imprisonment is not practical. Because it is more like a punishment to the family of that person than to himself. Absence of father, no body to run the house and so many other things. Then you have all the facilities in there and for many it is like a holiday with the all the facilities paid for. In that regard I believe it is better to flog that person where that pain would deter him in the future and he would be free straight away to get on with his life. As far as death penalty is concerned then you should only ask someone whos loved one was killed unlawfully by someone that how the killer should be treated.

Yes but you only have to ask the family of a rape victim and they'll want the death penalty too.

Which is not an eye for an eye

This is why we don't set punishments by the desires of the victim
