People use it as they want to, it doesnt mean if you hit me, I can hit you back. It was originally meant to say that the punishment should be exactly equal to the crime, or that payment should be of equal value to the goods...etc
In Christianity, Jesus criticises an eye for an eye as did Gandhi!

basic answer is no, I dont agree with capital punishment.
I would not like to see the death penalty reintroduced, and whilst I am aware lots of sex crimes don't actually involve a desire for actual sex, I am pro castration. I think these men should have their gonads removed (if severe or repeat offenders) and administered depo-provera to lower their testosterone levels.

I believe that capital punishment is very necessary for any peaceful society. But long before that Justice system has to be fair and just. Wizards example is good in that sense. Had that person been prosecuted for abusing a child then once grown up that child wouldnt have to kill him. Had that person known that he would be punished severely then he wouldnt have abused the child in the first place.
For certain crimes imprisonment is not practical. Because it is more like a punishment to the family of that person than to himself. Absence of father, no body to run the house and so many other things. Then you have all the facilities in there and for many it is like a holiday with the all the facilities paid for. In that regard I believe it is better to flog that person where that pain would deter him in the future and he would be free straight away to get on with his life. As far as death penalty is concerned then you should only ask someone whos loved one was killed unlawfully by someone that how the killer should be treated.
