My idea is of lots of space for everyone, friendly people and nice big men. I imagine it is lovely, remote, peaceful and to watch a sunset every night....wow.
However my friend bought a house there and flitted between countries for years, said it is like a council estate in the sun, and came home permanently in the end. He said the people were loud and coarse.
I used to run SYHA hostels in Scotland and while we welcomed Germans, English, French, Japanese as they all made lovely considerate guests, we dreaded the Ozzies coming especially their Haggis tours. They would be up all hours keeping the whole hostel awake, would pee the bed and generally be inconsiderate to others.
One village, Kyleakin was overun by 6 Haggis tours each day and was known as the most drunken town in Scotland. It made radio 1. People were getting ****** and doing toilet and having sex everywhere, on the green, on people's doorsteps......I'm not a prude, but that was what it was like....the ozzies were just like Brits abroad. The type you see on TV and cringe.
