Would you try to change yourself?

I've just been watching the Wright Stuff where they were discussing people who change themselves in order to improve their social standing. Would you try to change yourself - eg your speech, your looks, your body, your dress, your grooming, your manners, etc - if it meant improving your chances of getting a better job, perhaps a wealthier husband/wife, and generally moving up the social ladder?

If so, what would you change and why?

Not for any of those reasons, but I wish I was taller, that my speech wasn't so cockney, and that I had nice hair -- but for myself and my confidence, not for other people or moving up the social ladder.
I change all the time, depending on the circumstances.
I'd change my big stomach, but then again, wealthy upstanding upwardly socially-mobile rich citizens also have big stomachs, so......

No. People have to accept me the way I am, and thankfully, most do.
We are all actors in any social situation. The people who dont do an act are Austistic, aspergers or have a similar condition. As to changing yourself, you might as well as that is the only person you can change, though you can cause others to put on a different act in your presence.

Its just the way we are.
Hi Naomi, was the Wright Stuff debate triggered by this story..?

..there are plenty of things I'd like to change, but not because of any grand plan to improve my circumstances, because I'm fairly happy with them at the moment.

If I did ever feel I needed to reinvent myself to get out of a rut or for a change of direction though, I'd do it - as long as you're still you, and not projecting a false image for the purposes of deception, I don't see a problem.
No,I have spent 62 years becoming what I am now.
Whether I want to change is another matter, but it's a bit late now even if I do?
Invictas Na Na Na NAnAA I beat you 76 last December.
I didnt watch the show, but as a general comment - yes, more and more people do change themselves to improve social standing these days. I know girls that sole mission is to bag a rich man. They aren't horrible people but they feel it is acceptable to hunt for a man who can take care of them financially rather than struggle or go out in to the world and attempt to make a career! They have different morals to women of the 50's, strong minded tough women I suppose?
We hopefully all change its called personal growth but to deliberately set out to change an aspect for material gain might not be so healthy

I'd dress smarter if I were in a higher profile job, I don't have too much to change with the grooming, but that's it. I'm me and take pride in the fact that I'm an individual with my own character and characteristics. I'd only 'better' myself to what I considered better, never what someone else did.
we do change ourselves for jobs all the time...how many people post on here about what to wear for interviews?
My comment wasnt a generalisation, I know many proffessional women, I refer to girls I went to school with. I wonder if they got their millionaire??
i certainly wouldn't change to 'improve' myself in a social standing situation.

For my own happiness and well-being, I would be a little taller, a littlle slimmer, have hair again, and a new skin, so I could wear any colour I liked.

Other than that, I'm pretty OK.

Ludwig, yes I think that might have been what initiated the discussion. I was in the shower and drying hair and all that whilst watching the programme, so I didn't really get the full story.

jno and pixi .......... thoughts ................. nah. :o)
I wouldn't change myself, not now, I'm happy in my own skin - although much to my surprise I have a quiet voice when speaking in public, I wouldn't mind a voice which carried more. Otherwise - no, I wouldn't.
