Such a viewpoint is common in today’s world. Scandals involving lies told by prominent politicians and other world leaders have rocked society. Influenced by this climate, many people have relaxed their commitment to telling the truth. In some domains lying has even become official policy. “I’m paid to lie. This seems to be the core of retail sales training everywhere, Many believe that there is no real harm in so-called little white lies. Is this true?

Then when he's 7 or 8, his Mummy and Daddy explain to little Jimmy that Father Christmas is simply a pleasant and harmless tale and doesn't really exist.

He is a little disappointed but soon understands that all of the presents and nice things that he attributed to Father Christmas cannot possibly have been so, and comes to realise that he must look to more rational explanations.....

It's just a shame that you didn't take your own analogy to its logical conclusion...
^^ I love rationality. :o)

However, simply teaching children that there is a God is insufficient. Young ones also need to be taught God’s Word, including what God requires of humans. Why is this? Well, consider: Many modern parents tell their children that there is a God. And practically every parent tells his child that it is wrong to lie, to steal and to commit other such crimes. Also, mothers often tell their daughters that it is wrong to engage in premarital sexual relations. And yet children by the millions turn to these delinquent activities, realizing even while they are engaging in them that they have been told that these things are wrong. Clearly, telling a child is not enough.
Of course, the Bible says we should stone them to death, you obviously support this action Elderman!
As you have acknowledged we know it all, why do you keep trying to tell us differently ?

Vulcan, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Elderman, //Clearly, telling a child is not enough.//

Coming from you, that's worrying.

So now they become atheist.
Life needs lies.

Are you referring to your children ?
Lies leading to loss of life? That reminds me that your bible credits your deity with killing more than 2 million people (a number that excludes things such as plagues, killing of the first born etc.). Unless it's all a pack of lies.
No, you are worrying. You, with your corrupt certainty that your narrow perception of existence is correct. You, with your determination to enslave me to your view of the world.
//So now they become atheist.//

Wonderful! Raising an independent, well-adjusted child is successful parenting.
back now (from the pub) - No need to arrange a paypal, jomifl, I managed to scrounge a couple of pints of zoider off folk who owed me pints!

I see Elderman is in full papal pontification.

My quote from Job was from 11 and concerning the manipulation of text on several of the Unholy Trinity's threads:

"Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed? But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;"

And for the record, I may have put in Job 13:4 last time - which though perhaps close to the point, is a little unfair.
Ive raised 3 of them that way, great well adjusted kids too, just don't tell them I said that! :)
DT, did you read my earlier post?
