Islam, is it compatible with western society?

Bearing in mind some of the statements made by Muslims on this site, relating to their attitudes to women and brutal punishment (mostly of women) for cultural misdemeanours, is Islam in it's present state a religion compatible with a modern liberal society ?

Despite the similarity to headlines in a bnp 'rag' it has no connection as I have never read any bnp literature. My opinion of the bnp is that they are a bunch of moronic fascist thugs who would benefit from a prolonged course of social readjustment. The reason I posted the question is that converts to islam in the UK appear to be acquiring vindictive mediaeval attitudes which are at the least illegal and at the worst criminal and are comparable to the worst examples of fundamental islam. Mainstream islam is claimed to be tolerant and peaceful yet it permits the teaching of extreme reactionary views which are incompatible with the society that gives it the freedom to exist. Until mainstream islam faces reality and deals with this situation it is not going to get any respect from the majority of people and will not fit easily into the cultural melting pot that is Western society..
"they are a bunch of moronic fascist thugs who would benefit from a prolonged course of social readjustment"
lol. i think as per the article if one follows the hysterical and over-reactionary "shariah is taking over the uk" line, then perhaps there is some kindred spirit there.
i never doubted for one minute you would be one of 'those' jomifl.

People need no excuse at all to judge one another. If it wasn't Islam it would be color, or nationality, or education, or wealth. Millions of peaceful people around the world get along just fine without blowing anyone up. It has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with individuals. I get judged here for my nationality. My religion gets me bashed too but I probably ask for that when I poke my nose in those conversations. If you're educated to be a bigot you will be. If you're taught to be a bigot you will be; if you're taught to blow things up you probably will. "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness" but all that really equates to is self education against what we thing we already know.
Cowtipper.. can't argue with that, although we don't need an excuse to judge, we have a right to judge. It does work both ways though. Some people need to be held to account for their attitudes and actions including those you mentioned. Most people can't choose their nationality but they can choose their religon though they mostly don't realise it.
Hmm. I shouldn't play video games while posting and not edit my thoughts better. I are smert, its herd to tell sometimes.
I liked the people from Yemen. They have some funny ideas but they really didn't line up with what I thought it would be. Like women's rights. The women have domestic control, and with that control over the men. Two different responsibilities and outlooks. I thought it as terrible that they wore the veil but all the students I talked to didn't mind it and some of them really liked it.
Because everything is against the law they kind of do what they feel like. Its a very laid back attitude about work and relaxation. Police are non-existant outside of the city so you're pretty much on your own. Tribal politics are nothing like we have here so there's no comparison in what you see. Plenty of retired RAF live there and they like it.

Yes it would be better to billet hired foreign mercenaries in our homes, ban weapons and free speech, tax us without representation, control our imports and exports through an exclusive trade monopoly, and fight proxy wars through the middle of our country all based on the "God given" right to govern. Oh, wait- that was Britain. Is there anyone there willing to take responsibility for that? As far as I know we never even got an apology.
Our biggest export is money. We give it away hand over fist to keep the Euro from becoming paper weights. We buy peace all over the world. I'm all for the rest of the world going to hell in a hand basket, cutting off all foreign aid, and closing the borders. Sorry about letting your economy flop guys. With a ten percent or so of the GDP coming from other countries banking interest I think that it would bother people across the creek a whole lot more than it would us. Most Americans feel the same way. I hope Ron Paul wins the next election because it could become reality.

*shrug* Whatever. On topic.

I saw the post on the girls getting drunk and beating up another girl. Are there some more examples you can link? Are they trying to subvert the law or have some laws changed? We don't have the same issues with immigration at the moment so I don't know if this is related to a direct or indirect threat. Are these mostly from converts or immigrants?
