If my 'loved one' was considering jumping off a cliff, I rather think that they might see my thwacking at them with a toothbrush to be a somewhat feeble attempt at rescue and plant a seed of doubt in their mind as to just how deep my commitment to saving them actually is!

Of course, in the extreme circumstances you mention, physical restraint is entirely appropriate.......but that is 'restraint' and NOT assault.

Now, do you have any sensible scenarios in which you can attempt to justify a man's right to beat his wife?
To beat his wife with a toothbrush. I never read anything so ridiculous.
Ummmm, he knows he's put his foot in it, and he's trying desperately to lever it out again. He doesn't seem to understand that hitting anyone with anything is just not acceptable.
I had a tear drop from my eye reading that.

Hitting someone, even if it's with a toothbrush, is unacceptable and shows a lack of self control.
I must admit, it made me laugh too. Pathetic! :o)
It made me laugh too that people are worried about things that has nothing to do with them. Is it some sort of complex or what?

Naomi - I know what I have put my foot in and this is another of your attempt (Psychological).

I am sticking to my words and if you do not agree then don't worry you don't have to as I am sure no one is pleading to anyone of you to adopt a life style that you do not like or have your reservations about. 1.8 Billion Muslims know what they believe in and how they have to live, and are quite happy and have the most stable family system. So what is your worry? I know what your worry is?

Jomifl – You are telling me that I do not know anything about Christianity and have no idea yourself that without O/T new testament has no base whatsoever. Jews are refusing to accept Jesus as prophet, Christians can’t say that they do not accept Moses as prophet otherwise their own religion has no base. Go and educate yourself. But then you are an atheist.
Keyplus, I am beginning to think that either you do not understand written English or you subconciously deliberately misunderstand things that you cannot cope with. If you think I can be bothered to reply your attempts to add layers of meaning to my last posting then you are sadly mistaken. If you want to be taken seriously then be truthful as no doubt your god would wish, try not to be so devious, and cut down on the snide remarks. They just demonstrate that you do not have a cogent argument.
This thread is becoming quite amusing :))

Personally I cant be bothered to argue against this sort anymore, they are obviously beyond any sensible argument but an enjoyable and humorous read.
Keyplus, // It made me laugh too that people are worried about things that has nothing to do with them. Is it some sort of complex or what?//

But it does have something to do with us. It has everything to do with us. You advocate physical violence against women. That is not only an appallingly backward philosophy, it is also, quite rightly, illegal, and in order to protect women who are at the mercy of men like you, we must make it our business. Wouldn’t you just love it if everyone turned a blind eye as they do in your homeland, Keyplus? Well hard luck! You live in the west now and the just among us will not turn a blind eye. The Women’s Rights organisations I mentioned previously exist, and there is a reason for it – and people like you are front runners.

// I know what I have put my foot in and this is another of your attempt (Psychological). //

I have no agenda. Quite simply you have attempted - and failed - to limit the criticism that your chauvinistic arrogance has produced here.

//I am sticking to my words and if you do not agree then don't worry you don't have to as I am sure no one is pleading to anyone of you to adopt a life style that you do not like or have your reservations about. //

But you haven’t stuck to your words. You’ve attempted to brush over them. And, no, I don’t like it – and neither should any right thinking human being.

//1.8 Billion Muslims know what they believe in and how they have to live, and are quite happy and have the most stable family system. //

I very much doubt that 1.8 billion Muslims think as you do. In fact, I know they don’t – but like many people – even those indigenous to the west - they still manage to have stable family systems.

//So what is your worry? I know what your worry is?//

You do? Please share my thoughts with the rest of us.
I wanted a bit more about the toothbrush fight!!!

naomi, i would say a one word answer, but what my opinion is cannot be summed up in one word. also i find it quite funny how youre telling me a one word answer would do when it is not even your thread.

i will repeat again. You cannot call a religious sexist, however there are sexist people in a religion, no matter what that religion is. You can get sexist people in christianity, hinduism, islam, judaism, any religion. and i am pretty sure you can get sexist atheists. that is my opinion. the simple fact is, nobody is perfect and completely good. therefore you are bound to get some racist, sexist people. it is a fact.
Sith, so again, you have found amusement in this conversation. Well, you may be able to fool yourself, but you’re not fooling anyone else. Ummmm was right. You’re out of your league.
Birdie// I would like to think that Keyplus is a dinosaur – a living relic of bigoted, misogynistic, violent, totalitarian beliefs. I would like to think this but I know it simply isn't true. I believe that he is more representative of Islam than others would like to think.//

You’re absolutely right. Whilst not all Muslims embrace his philosophy – certainly not the more educated – unfortunately a good proportion aren’t educated and therefore he is more representative of Islam than some would like to think. As an accountant, he might have a reasonable grasp of arithmetic, but that’s about it.
How right you are naomi, Islam is not a moderate religion and is intolerant of every other religion on this earth - their sole aim is as keyplus alluded to is world wide Islamic domination. So my answer to the question is Islam.
naomi, you make me laugh. and not in a good way. thats all i have to say on that as i know you clearly want me to fall into your trap of nominating one religion when that is so clearly not the answer.
the fact is, as i have said, this is not your thread so you cannot tell me to answer in one word.
ill answer how i like
Sith, no one has set any traps – and regardless of whose thread it is, no one can tell anyone how to answer. The simple fact is you know what the answer to the question is - and you don’t like it. That's not quite so amusing, is it.
