While I'm not suggesting that the AB atheists are the worst, this line might explain why the atheist v theist debate seems so one sided.

of course, because there my children. I cant tell other parents how to look after their child now can i, unless it is my job. If i could, i would.
Sith, Straight question. In your opinion are those parents right or wrong? A one word answer will do.
Sith, if you are going to abdicate your moral standards to another authority then make sure you pick the right one. The words 'Dracula' and 'blood bank' come to mind.
naomi, what is with you and one word answers? sometimes you cannot answer in one word. But for your sake and the sake of ending this i thing that they are WRONG. That is my opinion. That does not mean i disagree with the quran as remember the quran was written 1400 years ago. things were different then. But nowadays i thing that it is to early and my personal opinion is that it is wrong.
Sith, thank you. You have given a one word answer - and, like it or not, it does mean you disagree with the koran because that doesn't deem it wrong.
no naomi, i do not disagree with the quran. It does not say that you HAVE to get married at that age, does it? Most muslims, as i have said get married around, for women, ages 19-20.

http://en.wikipedia.o...ldren#Age_of_marriage

there is actually no age limit for marriage in Islam, so if anything this whole point is invalid as the quran does not say you have to get married at 13 does it?
Good try Sith, but not good enough. You think it's wrong, but Mohammed didn't. Therefore, you and he disagree.
yes, because mohammed lived 1400 years ago and custom in his country was totally different at that tine.
and technically we dont disagree, muhammed never said you have to get married at this age. The quran does not state a marriage age.
Sith, It's not working. Muslims are encouraged to emulate Mohammed and some of them do - and you think that is wrong. Therefore you disagree with him, you disagree with them, and you disagree with the koran. There's nothing else you can say.
even if what you said was true naomi, you have still made a vital error. For starters muslims do not have to copy the sunnha and hadith of Muhammed, however if you do it is good. That does not mean that you have to copy everything he does. There are some things he did, which he said no one else should copy. A muslim is nto a muslim if he follows muhamed. He is a muslim if he declares there is one god and muhammed is the last and final messenger. Than you are a muslim. You dont have to follow everything muhammed did.
:o)
?
Sith - “... the quran was written 1400 years ago. things were different then...”

Saying that 'it was different back then when the Koran was written' is absolutely no defence whatsoever to the appalling practices contained within it.

The Koran is immutable. That's what Islam teaches. It's a fundamental principle of your religion. Therefore, what is written in the Koran is true in all ages and at all times. If a practice was acceptable when it was written, it must be acceptable today.

The fact that you seem oblivious to this leads me to believe that you actually know very little about the religion you are so keen to defend.
so if death penalty was in Britain back then it should be here now?

if women could not get a divorce back then that should happen now?

exactly.
Sith - “... so if death penalty was in Britain back then it should be here now?...”

No - and that's the point. We are discussing Islamic scripture and the laws for man that were laid down in the Koran by Allah, the one and only true God, via his prophet, Mohammed. It's the first Pillar of Islam – Shahadah.

And I repeat - The Koran is immutable. If a practice was acceptable when the Koran was written, it must be acceptable today and in all times both past and present.

“... if women could not get a divorce back then that should happen now?...”

Funnily enough, the same above answer applies.

Do you really understand Islam Sith? I think that you might need further instruction. Perhaps your friend Keyplus can help? Failing that, pop down to your local mosque and have your brain put through a quick wash cycle. That should help.
you do know birdie that in the quran it does say that using the quran, you make your own choices. You dont follow it like a brain dead monkey. It says itself that not all practices have to be done. Most do, however not all.

Than there are also the sunnah and hadith, which are the sayings and actions of the prophet. They also do not have to be done, yet some it is good if you do. Some the prophet himself said you should not do.
Sith, Can you provide some examples?
heres one:

//to sit on the floor and eat
to eat with your fingers//

However not all muslims do this. Most eat at a table.

This is just a general thing about the sunnah:

//"Whosoever does a good Sunnah he will get the reward for it and the reward from other people doing the same thing until the day of judgment. And whosoever does a bad Sunnah he will have the punishment from doing it and the punishment of others who practice it" [Muslim]//

i can give more if you want but im short on time.
Sith, come on. Sitting on the floor to eat? You'll have to do better than that.
