Keyplus, you show yourself up for what you are, a MCP ! Dont make snide remarks on Abers; get back in your taxi !
conversions to islam

at least matched and probably exceeded by the rapid growth in 'evangelical christianity'

Neither are a way forward, quite the opposite as they are all evidence of people's limiting beliefs and evidence of the need for certainties (even dubious ones) and the potential for delusion in many human beings.
Keyplus...freudian or what?
Re the Keyplus link, are men really frightened of smart women? I've always rather enjoyed wrestling, figuratively, with bluestockings.
Sandy, your imagination will lead you onto the primrose path..so follow your instincts....
as i said, the subjugation of women over centuries, by Christianity, Islam, has me wondering why anyone would convert in this day and age. I will never understand educated white women who don the Burka, makes not one ounce of sense.
em10, the thought has crossed my mind (and I hope I am in no way being an MCP), that many of the women that marry Muslims and consequently convert, do it either for venal reasons or because they are hopelessly romantic. Other suggestions welcome.
According to “The Plain Truth”, February 1984, in its 50 Year Anniversary Issue, quoting from the “World Almanac and Book of Facts 1935″ and “Reader’s Digest Almanac and Yearbook 1983″, between 1934 and 1984.

Christianity increased 47%
World Population increased 136%
Islam increased 235%

I wouldn't be remotely surprised if there are a lot of conversions to Islam in the West. It's obvious to all but the most dull-witted that Christianity largely on the wane.

Islam, by contrast, is growing because it's at an earlier stage in its development.

Those who find it necessary to cling to an idea that there is more to life than there actually is will naturally be drawn to religions, and ones that appear strong, growing and righteous will be likely to appeal more than ones that are declining.

However, just like most people accepting the Roman pantheon during their time, or Scandinavians embracing Thor et al, numbers of adherants do not tell you anything about whether a religion is true. They simply tell you which appeals best to the world in which it exists.

Islam, righteous? not sure i understand that at all.
I can't imagine why, it certainly won't prevent them from being murdered by fellow muslims, even those of the same sect.
for 'righteous' read 'self-righteous'
No it won't, and as to new, no it's not.
Boxtops, I'm not trying to be funny but do you not think that choosing a religion to 'suit your needs' is a bit cart before horse? The purpose of Abrahamic religions is to serve god and praise him, they are not there for the convenience of the followers. I would have thought it best to stay uncommitted until god has let you know which religion to he wishes you to follow in an unequivocal way. Otherwise just go along with your parents 'choice' like 99.9% of the world. If you don't hear from him atheism is always a reasonable and uncontentious option.
i chose atheism over any religion, as i have absolutely no desire to be told what to do, eat, wear, how to think, be married off to some undesirable, It strikes me that some need to be led because they don't have any idea of how to live their life otherwise. That you have to have a deity to pray to otherwise your life makes no sense.
Righteous ≠ right, Em10!

I'm referring to the degree of belief that many Muslims have in their religious views. In my experience, most Christians - apart from creationists and fringe loonies of that ilk - tend not to appear so completely confident that they're right.
Keyplus, //Because she said your favourite phrase.//

What would that be then? It can't possibly be "I’m 62, I’ve got grey hair, I’ve got wrinkles, this is me", because that's not me at all, so I'm rather at a loss to know what you're talking about.
that they think they are right, well we have seen how right they are when blowing up buildings, buses, trains, and how right they are when killing a young woman because she dared fall in love with the wrong man, or trumped up charges of adultery, or indeed murdering homosexuals, a right on religion, that has no basis in reality.
keyplus - you really are a plonker. Ahummm
