Is God's purpose for mankind the conversion of the world to the so-called Christian religions? That is what the majority of the sects of Christendom teach.

//Naomi@ second man – Adam? //

That's what I said, Goodlife.

//That ‘s all for today Folks! //

He's no doubt gone off to investigate. ;o)
LMAO
@Goodlife - You display the characteristics of believers everywhere. At the first sign that physics and the world do not fit with the biblical worldview, what do you do? You attempt to redefine the science to something more palatable, or reject it entirely,, preferring to adhere to a worldview where the bible is inerrant ,so everything else that contradicts it must be wrong.

its a blinkered worldview that, if applied to society as a whole would result in stagnation.
"its a blinkered worldview"

that is an understatement
There is no entropy problem Goodlife

I'm afraid you've been had

If you look at a human being that comes into existance aparently from chaos it looks like there is an entropy problem, that the second law of thermodynamics is wrong.

But that's because you're only looing at half the story.

You can get localised order providing that the overall energy system becomes more disordered.

In this case the Human gets energy ultimately from the Sun. Wen you take the overall system of the Earth and the sun it's getting more chaotic as the sun releases energy.

The only entropy problem is that a lot of people don't understand entropy properly
// billym @ Most of us, if we stopped to think about it, would agree that religion is something that is too important to be left to chance. //

Yet in your original question you imply that God left it to chance - he gave us a choice of what religion to follow. If any particular religion is the 'right' one, and God made us, then why didn't he make us such that we all followed that particular religion?

This is the last time I get involved in a question of this type again, I have just realised that it is pointless and life is too short.
Actually, a Christian ABer said only a day or two ago ……

//some "arms" of the so-called Christian church give us "normal" Christians a bad name by their way-out theories and practices.//

She isn’t a Jehovah’s Witness like you Goodlife, but her comment serves to demonstrate the nonsensical confusion surrounding faith. Don’t all people of religion, regardless of flavour, consider themselves to be ‘normal’?
//Don’t all people of religion, regardless of flavour, consider themselves to be ‘normal’?//

If it were normal to jump off a cliff, I still wouldn't be normal . . .

Erm? Oh well, they say confession is good for the soul . . . but they don't usually specify whose. :o/

Jake@ //There is no entropy problem //
.
So you agree that “a highly ordered condition” points to an Organizer? Most would. But those professing atheism are not inclined to accept this. Why? Because of faith! Clearly, God, who put into operation the principle known as entropy,

billym //This is the last time I get involved in a question of this type again, I have just realised that it is pointless and life is too short.//
True, But it not be wise to ask yourself: ‘Was it a hand-me-down that I have never questioned? Or did I make a deliberate, rational choice?’ Asking such questions is the very thing that the Bible urges us to do. ‘keep testing whether we were in the faith, to keep proving what we ourselves are.’—2 Corinthians 13:5

A brief analysis of just a few beliefs of “pagan” and “Christian” religions should show the thinking person that sincerity in believing a doctrine does not change what is wrong into what is right. It does not make it acceptable to God. He cannot condone what is wrong. He cannot bless what is falsehood. He is a God of truth. “It is impossible for God to lie,” states Hebrews 6:18; so surely he would not approve lies even when sincerely taught in his name “Jehovah”
Hi Goodlife, are you going to answer my question about why you believe that the bible is the word of god soon or should I just wait until hell freezes over.
Goodlife, //A brief analysis of just a few beliefs of “pagan” and “Christian” religions should show the thinking person that sincerity in believing a doctrine does not change what is wrong into what is right. //

Wise words – and very true – but looking at your following paragraph….

//It does not make it acceptable to God. He cannot condone what is wrong. He cannot bless what is falsehood. He is a God of truth. “It is impossible for God to lie,” states Hebrews 6:18; so surely he would not approve lies even when sincerely taught in his name “Jehovah”//

….words that you do not take seriously. More hot air.
The truly ridiculous part the faithful trying to argue their position based on science is that the god hypothesis requires the starting point having the most complex structure in the Universe and absolutely no explanation of where it came from.

Science shows us how the Universe started with very simple basic principles and how the consequent mechanisms built the complexity we see today.

However it isn't surprising that the faithful adopt this position being as they build their lives around inducing cognitive dysfunction in their brain.

jomifl@// your question about why I believe that the bible is the word of god//

The Bible disagree with theories on evolution of life, and why not! Evolution is only a theory, and not a sound one at that.

So, with faith, works are required to make it valid. And if the works are to be acceptable, they must be motivated by love.

And to the answer to the question may vary, depending on whom you want to serve. Religion is service. If you want to serve yourself, you will pick the religion that pleases you. If you seek the favour of your neighbors, you will select the religion that pleases them. If, instead, your desire is to serve God, you will want to please him, simple.

beso @ //Science shows us how the Universe started with very simple basic principles and how the consequent mechanisms built the complexity we see today//

True ,As Jehovah’s Witnesses we invite open-minded people, both scientific and religious, to share in a sincere quest for truth in both realms. And in their congregations the Witnesses nurture a healthy respect for science and its proven findings as well as a profound belief that religious truth can be found only in the Bible, which forthrightly and with abundant evidence declares itself to be the Word of God.

The Bible stated: “When you received God’s word, which you heard from us, you accepted it, not as the word of men, but, just as it truthfully is, as the word of God.”—1 Thessalonians.
Goodlife, //The Bible disagree with theories on evolution of life, and why not!//

Because it was written centuries ago by men who knew nothing about science - that's why not. We have solid evidence for the validity of evolution, so your statement is nonsense.

//So, with faith, works are required to make it valid. //

Other Christians, who also use the bible as their guide, don't interpret it as you do - and Muslims believe the Koran is the word of God and therefore validates their faith. Why do you think think that you alone are capable of knowing which of the interpretations - and which of the books for that matter - is the true word of God?

Same question to anyone else of faith who wants to join the discussion.

Since, in Goodlife's opinion, anyone who doesn't believe as he does is doomed, perhaps Keyplus, as a Muslim, and some of others who adhere to different brands of Christianity and other religions might like to defend their faith against Goodlife's claims - and we atheists can sit back with our popcorn and watch with interest.
Goodlife, I now know that you are aware my question even though you haven't attempted to answer it. I can understand that you might be incapable of understanding the question as the concept of the bible not being the word of god is probably unacceptable to your mindset.

Naomi
Its not what I say. it is what God's Word says.
Who are you to answer for other people?
Let them speak for themselves.
Some one on another thread asked ~”Why are you so bitter?”
I reiterate - Why are you so bitter? I have to agree, you strike me as being a very bitter person.
Goodlife, //you strike me as being a very bitter person. //

Oh, really? Why is that then? Because I'll have no truck with your dangerous, arrogant, nonsense? Tell me.

I haven't answered for other people. I would love them to speak for themselves - and that's exactly what I've asked them to do.
Oh, and Goodlife. Whilst you're telling me why you think I'm a very bitter person, why don't you tell me why you are alone here in understanding the true word of God, as I asked you to previously?
The truth is made only more bitter by those who choose to sweeten it with lies.
