I'm sure this must've been asked before at some point (but I don't know how to find out!!)
Why is the Catholic Religion so keen on The Virgin Mary?
They seem to pray to her rather than God, as though she is able to 'answer prayers' when I was under the impression (wrongly?) that only God could answer your prayers.
I get that she gave birth to Jesus, which is a big deal but as far as the Bible goes, there's not an awful lot more about her....or is there?
The same can be said of praying to various saints. Why use (as I see it) a third party. Why not just pray to God directly? Is he too busy?

I'm truly disappointed that the non-catholics haven't informed us that Rosslyn Chapel is correctly known as the Collegiate Chapel of St. Matthew.

Wharton is not far from the truth. Back in the 70s a friend of mine decided to cross the Tiber ( become an RC) and went to his local catholic priest for instruction. After a five minute conversation the priest said, " If you're High C of E then there's no point in coming to me for instruction, you know more about the faith than I do. Come to mass on Sunday and I'll receive you into the church."

Headwreck, I certainly don't go to Mass every day but I do go most Sundays and we always say the Hail Mary. I've never gone to a Mass where it wasn't said.

Not being a papist I cannot comment meaningfully, though it is my understanding that at mass during the intercessions for the church the Ave Maria is recited when thanksgivings are made for Our Lady. By the way,you may be surprised to learn that Our Lady is venerated in some quarters of the C of E to an even greater extent than that observed by the Church of Rome.

OK, an old-fashioned word, designed to differentiate between those who hold to the catholic faith but not the Roman papacy and those who cling to Rome. Were I ever to make the ultimate decision to cross over, then this would be my chosen song. I really envy my Roman friends for having such a beautiful hymn which they can sing with a clear conscience but I, alas, as yet, can not.

Yes, I am a Roman Catholic but probably by default more than anything else. I get tired of remarks by non-catholics attacking my faith and feel obliged to defend it.
