I'm sure this must've been asked before at some point (but I don't know how to find out!!)
Why is the Catholic Religion so keen on The Virgin Mary?
They seem to pray to her rather than God, as though she is able to 'answer prayers' when I was under the impression (wrongly?) that only God could answer your prayers.
I get that she gave birth to Jesus, which is a big deal but as far as the Bible goes, there's not an awful lot more about her....or is there?
The same can be said of praying to various saints. Why use (as I see it) a third party. Why not just pray to God directly? Is he too busy?
You're right Mike – I can spot the difference. One is a unverifiable account of a person's life written by people who never met the man and who lived long after he died and the other is a website that is not run for profit. Your accusation that Wikipedia was 'inspired' by greed is simply false.
I can't say I'm surprised that you seem to be unable to tell fact from fiction. It seems to be a character trait amongst the faithful.
Mike - “... [atheists] know f***ing everything!...”
Don't be so bitter and potty-mouthed. Atheists don't know everything. Far from it. However, we do know nonsense when we hear it and unfortunately, theists talk a lot of it.
Apart from the myth of Mary’s impregnation by God, there is no biblical foundation whatsoever for her elevated status within the church. All that came from various councils and popes. Statements like “Matthew and Luke were inspired of God” are completely unverifiable and as such, are no more than wishful thinking.
